Worship Highlights for November
November 1 - All Saints Sunday
Scripture: John 11:32-44
Sermon: "Jesus Cares "
In the United Methodist Church, All Saints Sunday is a day of remembrance and we will memorialize those of our congregation who have died in the past year with a candle lighting ceremony. The names of our departed members and friends will be read as a candle is lit and the bell is tolled in their honor. The Belles of Praise will ring the prelude with “Allegro Moderato” by Handel. The Chancel Choir will sing an anthem especially chosen for the occasion, “For A Moment.” Our sermon will be “Jesus Cares” and the scripture reading is John 11: 32-44.
November 8
Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Mark 12:28-34
Sermon: "The Most Important Commandment "
Join Pastor Jacobs as he discusses this in a sermon entitled “The Most Important Commandment” The scriptures are from Deuteronomy 6: 4-9 and Mark 12: 28-34. The Chancel Choir will sing an arrangement of “He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands” with “This is My Father’s World” by Joel Raney and featuring Mell Coleman as soloist.
November 15
Scripture: Mark 13:1-8
Sermon: "God Holds the Future "
Are we prepared to meet God? Rev Jacobs addresses this issue in his sermon, “God Holds the Future.” The scripture lesson will be Mark 13: 1-8. The Chancel Choir will sing “Simple Praise” composed by Craig Courtney.
November 22 - Thanksgiving Sunday
Scripture: Matthew 6:25-33 Mark 5;18-20
Sermon: "Giving Thanks Is Beneficial "
Join your church family as we give thanks together in our beautiful sanctuary! The Chancel Choir will sing Joseph Martin’s “Anthem of Gratitude” Rev Jacobs will preach on the topic “Giving Thanks is Beneficial.” His scripture passage will be from the book of Matthew, chapter 6, verses 25-33 and the book of Mark, chapter 5, verses 18- 20.
November 29 - First Sunday in Advent
Scripture: I Thessalonians 3:9-13 Luke 21:25-36
Sermon: "Much Of Life Is Spent Waiting "
We will begin the traditional lighting of the advent candles during this service. Pastor Jacobs leads us into the advent season of waiting with his sermon entitled “Much of Life is Spent Waiting.” The scriptures will be found in chapter 3 of I Thessalonians, verses 9-13 and Luke, chapter 21, verses 25-36. Mixed Notes Quartet will sing a lovely arrangement of “What Child Is This?” for the offertory and the Chancel Choir will sing the anthem.
