Hopewell's Celebration Worship Experience

Our Mission:

Celebration, Hopewell's contemporary worship service, provides opportunities to discover God's love, understand God's Word, and praise God's name in an exciting, experiential worship service using contemporary arts and technology. Through this service, Hopewell offers a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that empowers us to meet the needs of our daily lives.

Imagine, if you will: You enter the sanctuary and find a large crowd of people standing, clapping, and swaying to music coming from singers at microphone stands and what appears to be a rock band. Some are raising their hands in praise to God. You see some sort of drama being performed at the altar. The pastor is dressed in casual clothing. The atmosphere is comfortable, yet different.

It's the Contemporary service at Hopewell! Following our 8 AM service on Sunday morning is our worship offering to those seeking a relationship with our Lord and Savior. This service is targeted at the "seekers" in our church community; members or non-members who are looking for a casual and uplifting atmosphere in which to learn and grow in faith. We also offer a Contemporary Worship Celebration Service at 5:25 PM on Saturday nights.

Those of you who've had the pleasure of attending have probably noticed that this service is attracting a wonderful mixture of current members and people new to Hopewell. The crowd has been growing consistently as the format of the service continues to be refined.

It's based around using the Word of God as a basis for straightforward teaching and nurturing, along with an ample helping of praise music, and a side dish of drama. Each piece has its place and purpose. By joining together and singing praises to God, we can easily move into an attitude of reverence and worship. The drama can expose areas in our lives where God has solutions for us. And God's precious Word gives us truth we need to seek His will for us.

Feedback is very positive (with loving exceptions for the occasional technical glitch or difficult phrase to understand). The Celebration Praise Band has been working their halos off to bring fresh and exciting music to the service each week, lugging all manner of instruments into place (especially the drums) in the short window between the services. The drama team continues to bring new material to the mix as well. And the sermons really deal with key issues for seekers.
