In 1854 Methodist pastor Ephraim Wright met with a group of twelve people in Hope, Indiana. They organized the Hope Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Regular meetings of the Methodist "society" were held in a log home. In 1856 the congregation erected a frame church on Washington Street at Elm and continued to worship there for thirty-one years. The present brick edifice just east of the town square on Washington Street was built in 1886.
From those beginnings, the church has grown and changed in many ways. But always, we are a congregation walking that difficult path between tradition and innovation, embracing the past yet open to the future, building upon those who have gone before while striking out in new directions. It's not always an easy balance, but we invite you to join us in the undertaking.
