Hope's Weekday Preschool Children's Ministries (WPCM) Director: Kelly Martin Phone: (717) 738-2447
Hope Preschool Ministries is a weekday program at Hope UMC that
currently serves 78 children. Our mission is to promote the maximum social development of the preschool child
along with the child's physical development, and emotional maturity in a Christian
environment. Each child will be offered the benefit of learning through quiet and active
experiences, child-selected and teacher-determined activities, with the opportunity for
individual and group activities. Such learning shall prepare the child for further
education and development and will begin to instill in the child some of the values
consistent with the Christian community. Hope Preschool has at present two 4-year-old classes that meet three mornings a week,
one
from 9:00 A.M.-11:30 AM, and the other from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM.. Child-staff ratio is 8:1. The children enjoy free play time, art
time, Bible story learning, circle time, music, outdoor play, and
take advantage of visitors from public agencies such as the local fire
company. We also offer a developmental evaluation and parent
conference for each child. The end of the school year culminates with evening graduation
exercises involving the bell choir and various members and staff from the church. It is a
family celebration enjoyed and remembered by all. We offer 3-year old preschool classes that meet two mornings a week from 9:00-11:30.
They enjoy many of the same activities that the 4-year-old classes have. Child-staff ratio
is 6:1. For parents of younger children, Hope has their Mother's Day Out (MDO) program, which
allows for part time child care for children aged 18 months to 3 years. This program allows
mothers time out from 9:00 A.M.- 1:00 P.M., serving the children a packed lunch in the
middle of their busy day of playing, socializing, and learning in a relaxed and loving
Christian environment. Favorite activities of trike riding and outdoor swinging and
climbing in the playground are interspersed between simple art projects, Bible stories,
singing, and creative playing. Registration for preschool opens in February for the following the year and remains
open until classes are filled. Mother's Day Out (MDO) registration is open
year-round.
