Ways to Help

There are many ways to get involved—some ambitious and others simple, some suited for individuals and others for church communities.  We hope the spirit catches you to join the work here in one or more of these ways—or in a new creative way!

Your thoughts, prayers and notes

It is a powerful gift for the pastors and congregations of the Honduras Methodist Initiative to know that there are people of faith in another part of the world thinking, praying, and taking the time to send e-mails and letters to the Methodists in Honduras.

Send a mission team to Honduras

Talk to a church who has sent a United Methodist Volunteer in Mission (UMVIM) team.  It can be a profound experience for the team and for the congregation, resulting in a deeper understanding of what mission is, your own walk with Christ, and a general renewal and re-energizing of a church community.  The HMI invites you to join God’s work in Honduras through this important ministry of generousity and humility.  Read the answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Sending an UMVIM Team to work alongside Methodists in Honduras on this website.

Help Tell the story of the United Methodist Churches in Honduras to Methodists in the U.S.

United Methodist churches in the U.S. are still mostly unaware of the need and the opportunities in the Methodist communities of Honduras.  You or your congregation can:

bullet

Help pay for a Honduran local pastor to itinerate in a region of the U.S.

bullet

Help pay an UMVIM coordinator’s way from Honduras to the U.S. to attend a  UMVIM rally to display and share information with attendees, and to attend workshops on UMVIM teams.

bullet

Volunteer to attend rallies in the U.S. on behalf of the UM Mission Church of Honduras.

Collect and send needed items to Honduras

Give to the United Methodist Church in Honduras

"The Advance for Christ and His Church" is the formal name for United Methodist connectional giving to support mission projects around the world.  With Advance Special donations, 100% of every dollar goes to the place you designate.  The administrative cost of the Advance is paid through other funds.  The easiest way for a congregation, a mission committee, or an individual to give to the Advance is through your United Methodist Church—through the offering plate or church treasurer.  Every Advance Special destination has a number to identify it, called the Advance number.

There are several different opportunities for giving with the Advance Special Program.  Click on one of the links to learn the details.

Enter into a covenant relationship with a United Methodist missionary.
