Choosing Dates and
Worksite Assignment
1)
One of the first
steps in planning a mission trip is to contact the UMVIM coordinators
with the following:
Ø
The team’s preferred
dates.
(Info on Deciding
the Length of the Mission Trip)
Ø
The type of work the
mission team is offering to help with.
Ø
Your team’s
preference on accommodations. There are 2 levels of accommodations: more
rustic and less rustic.
The sites with more rustic
accommodations are Subirana and La Ceibita,
and both happen to be located in the north of Honduras.
Teams to these sites fly into
San
Pedro Sula
, and
teams to the other sites fly into
Tegucigalpa
. You
can read about accommodations at all worksites at Ministry
Sites. (Click on
the site name, then on “Mission Teams”)
2)
The
pastoral/missionary staff of the UMMCH of Honduras confirms the dates
(or suggests alternative dates), and assigns a worksite according to
the needs and past history of teams to Honduras.
3)
The UMVIM
coordinator informs the team leader of the site assignment.
Please
note:
°
The Pastoral/Missionary
Staff of the United Methodist Mission Church of Honduras has a
prioritized list of needs and makes all decisions about work locations
for UMVIM teams.
°
This
Pastoral/Missionary Staff matches a team’s skills, size, and dates
to the appropriate project, taking into account constantly evolving
priorities.
°
Sometimes teams have
preferences as to where they would like to work. When possible, that
is taken into account.
°
We ask that teams
respect the decisions of the Honduran United Methodist staff, which
are based on what is best for the connectional family of United
Methodist churches in Honduras, rather on what is best for a
particular church or UMVIM team.
°
Often sites cannot be
assigned more than 7 months in advance, because of the difficulty of
predicting the local needs that far ahead.
°
Occasionally, it is
necessary for the local staff to change the destination site for an
UMVIM team before they arrive. It
is always a decision of last resort, but can happen for a variety of
reasons. If a change is
required, we try to give the team as much warning as possible, and the
new site is picked to be similar in accommodations.
Another great use for that UMVIM flexibility!
