Word of Worship
I finally had a chance to attend the Beth Moore Bible Study. She was talking about proclaiming the truth about God, praising Him, and that in order to praise God, we need to exhale. Then she said something that is such a simple concept, but so profound. She said that we need to inhale before we can exhale. Try this: Breathe out as much as you can. Now read this out loud: I believe in God the Father, Almighty. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. I believe in the Holy Spirit – I bet you ran out of breath already.
So how do we catch our breath? How do we inhale? Beth Moore said that we inhale by taking in the Holy Spirit. In Greek, the word for spirit also means breath. We can take in the Holy Spirit by reading the Bible. In 2 Timothy 3:16, we learn that “All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God.” The Scripture is from the breath of God. In order to truly be able to worship and praise God, we need to be filled with the breath of God. This is where we need to start if we want inspiring worship.
We all know that we need to take in the Word of God every day. We need to breathe in every day so that we can praise and worship him. How can we help each other to do this more often? Do you have any special devotional rituals that help you to pray the Word? How have you practiced memorizing Scripture so that you can write it on your heart? Please share with us the things that have helped you to stay committed to reading the Word on a regular basis. Please email Loreen if you would like to share your ideas in future Messengers.
This month, let’s each find a way to breathe in the Word of God throughout our week, so that He can sustain us with His Spirit.
