New Ministry to HUMC
- Parish Nursing
We have started a new
ministry at HUMC called Parish Nursing. Parish Nursing has been very
popular in the Midwest for about 30 years and has spread to New England
congregations in the past 10 years. What a parish nurse does varies
between congregations and also between states due to different licensing
law for nurses. Parish nurses do not take the place of a doctor or
other health care provider but help church members improve their own health.
Some services a parish nurse might offer include exercise classes, blood
pressure checks, health and wellness classes and general health
advice.
The Parish Nurse program at
HUMC will be starting small but there is always room for growth! For
now, I will be available after worship one Sunday each month for blood
pressure checks and general medical questions and advice. If I do
not know the answer to your question, I will try to put in touch with
someone who can answer it. If anyone would like to make suggestions
for other activities or would like to volunteer their time to help, please
speak with either Pastor Krista or me.
