Archives & History . . . . . . . . Louisiana Conference
Archives

Welcome to the Louisiana Conference Archives for the United Methodist Church. This web site will present information on the Conference Archives at Centenary College and the repository at Dillard University.

After being located in the Sam Peters Research building (left) on the campus of Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana for almost a decade, the Archives returned to Magale Library in 2001.  Some materials are still stored at the Peters building.  To locate the site, go to the Directions page. A smaller amount of material is located at the university library of Dillard University in New Orleans.   We now have an inventory of Dillard's United Methodist material online.
The collection consists of the archives of the Louisiana Annual Conference of the Methodist Church from 1847, collegiate records from 1825, several manuscripts collections, and a large accumulation of material from Shreveport and northwestern Louisiana. Included in this last category is the archive of the North Louisiana Historical Association.
List of Louisiana UM Local Church Histories at the Archives
At a couple of occasions (1976, 1984), Louisiana Conference churches have been urged to send in copy of their local church history.  This online list shows the local church histories on file at the archives as of summer 1997.
Archivist
The archivist for the Samuel Peters Research Center is Kyle Labor. While he may be able to answer simple requests, please try not to ask him for a large amount of data. A visit to the Archives yourself would be recommended if you need a lot of information. He can be reached via email (klabor@centenary.edu)or standard postal mail (P.O. Box 41188, Shreveport, LA 71134-1188).

This facility subscribes to the Joint Statement of Access to original Research Materials developed cooperatively by the Association of College and Research Libraries and the Society of American Archivists. A statement of policies governing the use of manuscripts and archival materials in this facility is available to those wishing to do research.
