UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
May 2008
Second Quarter Mission Project
Thank you for your responce to our first quarter
project for the Pregnancy Care Center. For the months
of April, May, June and the fIrst two weeks in July we will
be collecting Health Kits for UMCOR. Health kits
provide basic necessities to people who have been forced
to leave their homes because of human conflict or natural
disaster. Health kiLs arc also used as learning tools in
personal hygiene, literacy, nutrition and cooking classes.
When people gain the knowledge and materials to
maintain personal hygiene, their overall health improves.
Below is a list of items needed for each kit. For your
convenience, we have provided one gallon zip-lock bags
available in the Information Center with a copy of this list
enclosed.
1 hand towel (15" X 25" up to 17" X 27 no kitchen
towels)
1 wash cloth
1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
1 metal nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards
or toenail clippers)
1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
I toothbrush (single brushes only, in original wrapcr-no
child size brushes)
6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
Please follow the directions exactly. Include all items; do
not add items that are not on (he list. Extra gifts, (though given
with the best of intentions, render a kit unusable and must
be removed. All items must be new! Please do not include
any religious, political or patriotic notes or emblems in any
kit. Bring your completed kits to the Mission Room no
later than Sunday, July 13th. Thesc kits will be taken to the
School or Christiam Mission at Greensboro College on July
24th.
Along with your kit, in a separate envelope, please bring a
check wriften to UMCOR Sager Brown for at least $2.00 for
each kit to help with the costs of buying one tube of
toothpaste, processing and shipping kits around the world.
If you do not wish to purchase items for a kit, you may write a check to UMCOR Saga Brown for $12.00 which is
the estimated cost of one kit.
Thank each of you [or your continued support of United
Methodist Women and Mission around the world.

OUTREACH
Bits & Pieces:
WOW! HOO-BOY! YE-ESS!
March 16th Sunday Service.
If you missed it, you missed a doozy. you missed the
presentation of "The Seven Last Words of Christ",the
unfolding of events from Jesus' triumphal entry into
Jerusalem, His crucifixion, to His rising from the grave.
The choir, under the most capable direction of Carol
Adams, was fantastic! Such power, such expression, such
joy, as they flowed smoothly through the opening What if
Sunday Had Not Come, to, Father Foqjive Them and In
Christ Alone, after the first (Luke 23:34) and second (Luke
23:43) words of Christ, respectively.
Then came the Rays of Praise following the fourth word
(John 19:26-27) with a beautiful, synchronized, interpretive
enactment of Christ being nailed to the cross, accompanied
by the song New Again, symbolic of sin being washed away
by Christ's blood.
Rob Deal's rendition of I Stand Reddeemed (after sixlh
word, John 19:30) was nothing short of sensational....
explosive!
All these actions were krüttcd together by the narmtion
and action of the H.U.M.C. drama team directed by
Karen Wilkerson. The following is a list of thc cast:
Narrators: Jean Gay and Pete Hayward
Jesus: Scott Mull
Criminal I: Grcy Johnson
Criminal II: Tony Frick
Rays of Praise: Karen Wilkerson, Hilda Shethil, Peggy
Wilkerson, Ann Matthews, Kmren Turner, Judy
Barringer
John: Grey Johnson
Centurion:Josh Coffey
Mary Magdalene: Karen Turner
Music Minister: Carol Adams
Lighting: Todd Cook
Audio: Hugh and the DJ.
Production Assistants: Trisha Thomas-Assistant
Director, Abby Acosta, Chelsea Helms, Heather Helms.
Story's out that they did an artful job.
That's it. As Ed Sullivan used to say, "....A real-ly big
`shew'."
p.s.: The writer missed the April Flame deadline by "that
much." Third word: Mark 15:34, Fifth Word:John
19:28, Seventh Word: Luke 23:46.
Habitat Home Sponsorship:
Our church and building tcain have been approached
about joining up with other area churches to sponsor -
and build- a Habitat Home in 2009. Budget issues will
determine our participation. More infomiation
forthcoming.
A Missions Note:
In response to Hahitat for Humanity's approval for
Blue Sky Acres, Phase 2 construction funds, your
church (and you) contributed $200.00 to the cause.
Additionally, our Grow & Go and Habitat Outreach
Ministry work teams put in a full Saturday building
homes at Blue Sky Acres, the location for 23 more
Habitat homes on the Robinson Road site, on April 26.
Hooray for our side.
