mandatory for working with our children. All nursery
workers, vacation Bible School workers, Wednesday
night helpers and children’s Sunday School or
Children’s church helpers need this training.

The Word is NEED
Think you aren’t needed to help with Wednesday nights?
This is a conversation held during a Wednesday night
Kid’s club:
Leader: "If you have Jesus in your heart, you will always
have someone to talk to, someone to reply on"
Boy #1 "I don’t have that."
Leader: "You can. All you have to do is give your heart
to Jesus. Tell Him you believe in Him and want him to be
in charge of your life."
Boy#2 "It ‘s too hard"
Leader: "It can seem that way. What do you find hard?"
Boy #2 " I don’t know"
Boy #1: "Everything is just too messed up."
Leader: "Jesus can help with that, too."
Boy #1: "I’m not ready to do that."
Boy #2: "Me either."
Leader: "Jesus will always be ready for you.
Our Wednesday night Kid’s Club needs more helpers.
With the number of kids we get, we just don’t have
enough time to spend time with Kids who need to know
more about Jesus and what He can do for them. We
only have a few weeks left until summer. Let’s not turn
these Kids loose without giving them the hope of the world.
"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus
replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your mind.' This As the first and greatest commandment
And the second is like it 'Love your neighbor as yourself 'All the Law
and the Prophets hang on these two Commandments'
Rules for all youth and children
1. Respect others at all times.
2. No contraband will be brought to the church including cigarettes, tobacco, alcohol, lighters
and other inapproptiate materials. If a student believes an item is questionable, please ask an
adult .
3. Cursing, and/or inappropriate language including inappropriate jokes are not allowed includ-
ing harmful gossip.
4. No inappropriate touching or contact at anytime.
5. Once on church grounds, an adult leader must be notified prior to leaving the students -
designated area for any reason.
6. Proper dress will be worn at all times and items such as tank toys and short shorts are not
allowed.
7. Church equipment should not be abused or misused at any time.
8. Church musical equipment to include the sound system can not be used without proper
approval.
9. Students should remain in their designated and assigned areas at all times.
10..All events will be worthy of being considered worship regardless of the number of students
present, where these students live, or what school each student goes to.
Remember to limit your cell phone use during instruction time. The church is not responsible for
misplaced or lost cell phones. Also, unless we are on a field trip please leave ipods, mp3 players
, game systems, etc at home.
In the event the Director of Youth and Children or another youth leader feels that any of the
above safety measures have been ignored or abused, the following actions may occur:
1. The student and adult will attempt to solve the issue prior to step 2 and 3. The adult leader
should quietly ask the student to step away from any other students in the area and address
what safety measure has been disrupted. Both should agree to the solution of the problem before
the student is allowed back into the group. Depending on the offense, it may however be
needed to skip this step.
2. The student will be asked to call his/her parent or guardian to assist in the solution to the
problem. When an agreement between the student and the parent is reached, the student
should be allowed to notify the director of youth and children.
3. If neither of the above appears to work, an adult will retrieve the director of youth and children
or the next leading adult, so they can contact the students parent/guardian for pick up.
Any adult and/or leader has the right to enforce these rulesi
Leaders, Mentors, and Parents!
Greetings from Planet York! Just kidding, I saw an old re-nm of Mork from York the
other day. That was a great show, good, clean with simple ideas. Too bad the world
doesn't stay that simple, huh. I am so impressed with the quality of the leadership that we
have in this church. Several adults have stepped forwards and helped with special trips
and events over the past year or so. Jean Gay is a great example. In the midst of a chaotic
busy adult life in the corporate world, she volunteered her time and to spend the weekend
with some girls this past weekend. I can ask Rob for anything to help this youth and
know that it will be done. Jill Deal is already thinking about VHS and is already making
plans for what! will be doing. I am seeing and hearing more and more the willingness of
leaders to step out of the shadows to open up their homes and hearts to get to know these
kids. Rob, a concrete post in this youth group is always present and never complains in
the midst of sometimes a daunting task. There are some many other leaders that! could
name. The point is, is that it is appreciated. Parents, please thank these leaders for theft
steadfastness in making the relational God evident in the lives of the children at
Highland.
As a step in the "Grow and Go" process, we are moving forward with a mentor program.
I have about 10 volunteers that are already committed to partner with me and with this
faithfUl church to mentor 2 to 3 youth over the next year. The process is simple, safe and
fun. The kid will know you care and in turn, no that God cares. On the 16th of February,
The leaders and mentors will meet to discuss this program at Ci'Ci's pizza. If you would
like to join us to learn more and consider being a mentor, please do. Call me at 828 234
3048 for more specific details. Below is a list of mentors that I have already. Some of
these names were taken from last years Grow and Go. Some of the names I have listed as
potentials I hoping you will consider. If you do not wish to participate, please let me
know. Remember the best lime spent is spent with God. When we invest in the lives of
others, it makes a difference!
