What is the ALPHA COURSE?

Alpha is a ten-week opportunity to explore the validity and relevance of the Christian faith for our lives today. It is a practical introduction to the basics of Christianity with loads of opportunity for debate and discussion. The style of Alpha is informal, friendly and non-pressured.

Alpha is enjoyed and appreciated as much by those who have never set foot in a church as it is by those who once attended and by the regular churchgoer. No matter what their background, whether investigating Christianity for the first time or revisiting their faith, participants get a lot out of an Alpha Course.

Each week people meet together for a meal, a talk on topics such as "Who is Jesus?", "Why Did Jesus Die?", "How Can I be Sure of My Faith?", and "Does God Still Heal Today?", followed by small group interaction. There is a day or weekend retreat midway through the course, which focuses on the person and work of the Holy Spirit

What Happens at ALPHA?

We come together over coffee and dessert. After dessert there is a video presentation by speaker Nicky Gumble.

After each talk there is a small-group time for everyone to discuss any questions or issues they have. This gives an opportunity to get to know each other and learn together.

Alpha is a place where no question is seen as too simple or too hostile. Come for one session or all 10. You make the decision.

When and Where?

Alpha will meet nearly every Monday evening for ten weeks from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Choir/Conference Room. Contact Church Office for dates.

There is also an optional one day Retreat and a Course Closing Celebration Dinner, Contact Church Office for dates and times.

Note: We expect that participants will be able to attend most classes but understand that some conflicts are unavoidable. Attendance at the weekend retreat is optional, but strongly encouraged because it is central to the Alpha experience.

More than six million people in over 148 countries from denominations from Baptist to Roman Catholic have completed the Alpha Course. Resources are available in 45 languages and Braille.
