About HUMC
We at Hibernia United Methodist Church are a warm and accepting family church with a rich history and future. We are blessed with people of all ages, shapes and sizes. Here are some of the ministries which are helping us to fulfill our mission as "a beloved community seeking to know Jesus and to faithfully follow Him through prayer, devotion and witness, and to be good stewards of God's many gifts".
Musical Groups
Hibernia has a long history of excellent music and musicians. Our musical worship style is a mixture of gospel, folk and contemporary. Fran Newlin, our musical director, leads our Adult Choir which practices every Wednesday evening from 7-8 pm, our Children's Choir which practices following morning worship, and organizes and directs special music using members from the congregation who are musically gifted.
For Our Children and Youth
Besides Sunday morning worship and Sunday School, a "Kid's Club" is offered on Tuesday evenings 6-8:30 for children grades 3-6. Special activities and events are also planned throughout the year which include some of the younger children.
Our Youth Group is currently meeting with the Youth Group of Hopewell United Methodist Church. We meet and leave from Hibernia on Sundays at 6 PM.
For Spiritual Growth
Throughout the year, a small group Bible study is held on Tuesday evenings (7-8:30 PM) and on Thursday mornings (10-11:30 AM). Some of our studies have included: Anger Management from a Christian Perspective, Disciple Bible Study, ALPHA, Individual books of the Bible and Advent and Lenten themes. We have also offered classes on Parenting, Blended Families and Setting Boundaries.
Sports Teams
Volleyball, Basketball and Softball teams are open to youth 16 and older. We play in church leagues with most games played nearby.
50 and Over Club
Our 50+ Club, formerly known as the Hibernia Adult Methodist Seniors meets for brunch every second Saturday of the month, 10:30am at the Double D Diner for food and fellowship. They also undertake various mission and church projects funded in part by their “penny fund.”

Fellowship Activities
Our church is active, featuring a fellowship activity once per month when singles and families join together in Christian fun. Activities include:
- Pot-luck brunch on the first Sunday of every month
- Fall harvest party and game nights
- Trips to the Reading Phillies and musical events
- A summer canoe trip down the West Brandywine Creek
- Wednesday Night Live programs in the summer with special musical guests and dessert
Caring for People in the Community
We respond to Christ’s call to care for those in need by participating in the following ministries (partial listing):
- Food Bank monthly collection
- Habitat for Humanity Workdays
- Heifer Project (supplies poor families with livestock)
- Supporting our over 1000 Methodist Missionaries
- Special offerings for natural disasters
- Souper Bowl Sunday - collecting soup and $ for the Emergency Food Pantry of Coatesville
Community Involvement
We are currently the charter organization for Cub Scout Pack #134 and Boy Scout Troop #116. Both scouting programs meet weekly at the church.
We are also currently supporting the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army serving in Iraq. Donations of food, magazines, crafts, chewing gum and other items are sent monthly to support our service men and women overseas.
We hope you will come and visit us at Hibernia United Methodist Church as we seek to know Christ, enjoy Him and make Him known.
