Pastor- Rev. Dr. Robert Sherburne

Reverend Dr. Robert O. Sherburne has been a United Methodist Pastor over 30 years. He is a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College (1970), and Wesley Theological Seminary (M. Divinity 1974, Doctor of Ministry 1989). He and his wife, Gigi, have three grown children and make their home in the Horseheads area. He has served churches in North Syracuse, Chittenango, Corning, and Horseheads. He was a District Superintendent for 8 years in the Finger Lakes South District. As the pastor he oversees all spiritual, temporal, and administrative affairs in the congregation. He looks forward to working with individuals and groups as this congregation grows.

Dr. Sherburne can be reached by calling the church office at 607-739-1943 during the day and either leaving a message or setting up an appointment with the secretary. His office hours are variable, although he tries to be there each
morning during the week.


Associate Pastor- Rev. Dorothy-Yorke Alloway, Ph. D.

 

 

 

 

 

Reverend Dr. Dorothy-Yorke Alloway has been a Pastor and Pastoral Counselor over 20 years. She is a graduate of Cornerstone University in La. with a PhD in Counseling Psychology. Dr. Alloway also holds certification in a variety of specialties including Marriage & Family issues, Crisis and Abuse Issues and Grief Counseling. She is a Licensed Pastoral Counselor with the National Christian Counselors Association with whom she also holds Diplomate and Clinical Supervisor status. She has served churches in Center County, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Georgia. As an integral part of the congregations she serves and shares responsibilities at all three services, teaches Sunday School programs and Bible Studies. There is a list of ongoing workshops she conducts throughout the calendar year. Call for information.

Christian Education Assistant- Christina Jackson

 

Christina Jackson is our director of Christian Education.
Her job duties cover staffing and training of Sunday School teachers, providing assistance to all of the classes throughout the week, providing support for the youth group, and helping future classes get started. She emphasizes the importance of the role of the Sunday School teacher and the influence it has on a child's life.

Parish Visitor- Cindy Ellis
The position of parish visitor is part of our Friends-at-Home mission work and is a relatively new position. Cindy is the first one to hold the job and has been working on it for 2 years now. Her job duties include making visits to homes of those who are home bound, making hospital calls, and post hospital calls.

Organist & Choir Director - David Peckham

 

David has been started playing the piano when he was 8 and organ when he was 11. He graduated from Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester with a Bachelor’s in music. He has been our official organist since 1985.
His job duties cover several areas. Along with choosing the music we hear on Sundays, he performs at the weddings, funerals, and other special events that are held at our church. There is a lot of interaction that occurs with the Pastor. Anyone who wishes to participate with special music for Sunday worship, please contact David though the church office.
When David isn't performing at our church you might be able to catch him at one of his many concert programs held in our community and as far away as Australia. He has also been Resident Organist at the Clemens Center since 1977. He plays both theater organ and concert organ .

The other position that David holds at our church is that of choir director. David leads the Wednesday Chancel Choir night rehearsals as well as leads them on Sunday morning worship. In addition to the regular weekly worship there are the special holiday events and summer music programs to plan.

Handbell Choir Director- Amy Harpster

Amy has been our handbell choir director for several years. They meet once a week and play in the church service about once a month.
