Music
is always an integral part of worship at First United Methodist
Church in Horseheads. There are many opportunities for anyone wishing
to join in Chancel and Children's Choirs as well as the Bell Choir,
and we always enjoy solo offerings. The church has a long history
of enthusiastically supporting the "hardware" end of the
music program; the pipe organ (second largest in the area), pianos,
harpsichord, handbells and music library are quality components
that allow the music staff great flexibility in presenting our musical
offerings. The newly expanded music room means we have plenty of
space, and we welcome all children and adults interested in praising
God through song.
Chancel Choir
Chancel
Choir provides our Sunday 10:30 worship service with anthems and
special music as well as service music. The choir performs a wide
range of styles of inspirational music, which can be heard from
September through June. Under the direction of David Peckham, this
group of adult singers ranges in age from High School students to
senior citizens.
We invite all singers who might be interested
in joining us to please come to one of our Wednesday evening rehearsals,
in the choir room from 7:30 - 9:00pm. For more information, contact
the church office at (607)739-1943 or write to Hhdsfirstumc@stny.rr.com.
Break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Psalm 98:4b
Contemporary Praise Band
This group of individuals have diverse music talents and backgrounds
but blend together to join in with contemporary worship.
The group plays a range of pieces from Christian pop music to hymns.
Bell Choir
The handbell choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30
in the choir room. We prepare music for performance during Sunday
services approximately once a month. There are usually openings
for more performers. For more information, contact the church office
at (607)739-1943 or write to Hhdsfirstumc@stny.rr.com.
