Ministries
PURPOSE
OF UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
The organized unit of the United Methodist Women shall be a community
of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom
as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive
fellowship; and to extend concepts of mission through participation
in the global ministries of the church.
Membership is open to any woman who indicates her desire to belong
and to participate in the global mission through United Methodist
Women.
Our Horseheads Unit is composed of three active circles:
Rachel Ruth Circle – meets the second Tuesday of the month
at 7:30PM

Our major events are:
Spring and fall church rummage sales – 100% profits go to
mission projects
Spring Fling (March) and Election Day Dinner (November)
General meetings for entire unit: January, March, October &
December

Horseheads First United
Methodist Preschool
Accepting children who are three, four, and five
years old.
-Program is three half-days per week (Wed. –
Fri.) from Sept. – May.
-Morning session (8:45 – 11:15)
-Afternoon session (12:00 – 2:00)
-Taught by qualified teachers and aides: student teacher ratio

Our program is designed
to:
- Help children have an enjoyable and successful
first school experience.
- Develop socialization skills (awareness of
self, getting along with peers and adults, taking responsibility,
respecting others, staying healthy and safe).
- Foster a love of learning while developing
cognitive skills (hypothesis, observation, drawing conclusions),
reading and math readiness skills, attention span, following directions,
etc.
- Foster creativity.
- Encourage and appreciation for and enjoyment
of art and music.
- Increase small and gross motor skills.
Our daily schedule includes:
- A lending library.
- Center time activities.
- Circle time activities (show and tell, story
time, group discussions, experience, charts, songs and finger
plays, games, etc.).
- A snack time that emphasizes manners, helping,
counting, conversation skills, etc.
- Gross motor time on the playground or through
active inside activities.
- Occasional field trips and special speakers.
