Welcome

to the Harrisonburg District! Nestled between the Appalachians and the Blue Ridge, in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, the churches of our district have a wonderful heritage and a promising future. As an entity, the Harrisonburg District is fairly young, created in 1972 from the northern part of the Staunton District and the southern part of the Winchester District. The following persons have served as Harrisonburg District Superintendent:

As District Superintendent since 2003, I welcome you to the Harrisonburg District Web Page. I hope that you will soon be able to visit one of our churches in person--and that you will experience Christ through the mission and ministry of the churches of our district.

The Harrisonburg District of The United Methodist Church is made up of 72 churches, which come in all sizes and descriptions. You may access the individual churches by clicking on the county where the church is located. You will be able to see pictures of the individual churches and receive information about addresses and directions, pastors, and worship services.

We are proud to be a district with deep roots in both predecessor churches of The United Methodist Church--the Evangelical United Brethren Church and The Methodist Church.

Our district is rich in Virginia history and full of natural beauty, in the geographic center of the Shenandoah Valley. It is bounded on the north by Woodstock, with a southern boundary just south of Verona; to the west it is bounded by the Appalachians and West Virginia, to the east by the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge. Civil War battlefields, notable caverns, old Valley Pike (U.S. 11), museums and universities, major agriculture and the Shenandoah River all are a part our district’s riches. Visit the Shenandoah Valley online at
http://www.shenandoah.org for more information about our area.

We are grateful that you are interested in our district and that you have visited this web page, and we are also grateful to our Webmaster, Steve Judd.

Thank You

See you in the Valley!

In Christ,

C. Edward Pruitt
