Chancel Choir K-Groups Van Ministry

Chancel Choir is a volunteer organization open to all teenagers and adults who wish to praise the Lord with song.
Rehearsals:  Wednesdays, 7:15 - 8:30 PM, in the sanctuary, and Sundays, 9:45 AM, in the chapel.

Our chancel choir sings each Sunday at the 10:00 AM service. The choir prepares special musical events throughout the year: Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Patriotic, and Thanksgiving services. This past Christmas Season (2003), we were privileged to join with the Choir of the First Baptist Church of Hawthorne to present a Christmas musical for all of Hawthorne titled “Everlasting Light”.
A photo of the combined choir may be found by clicking here.

Several of our children's Sunday School classes are teaching our children the benefits of praising God with their voices.

We are proud to have a Yamaha upright grand piano in our sanctuary, and FINALLY (Tuesday 3-16-2004) will have our newly purchased Allen 2-manual "Protege' " model AP-17i organ. See a picture of it here.  We have a three-octave set of Malmark Choir Chimes that are played on special occasions.

We are also blessed with a professional sound system capable of providing complete audio for our services, including enhancements for the hearing impaired, sound accompaniment for musical productions and complete recordings of services for the homebound, ill or otherwise absent members of our congregation.

K-Groups are essentially groups of six to fifteen members of our congregation who meet on a regular basis, have Christ as the center of their lives, and have other common interests.  Such groups are important to our church in that they provide a means to really get to know each other.  Things such as fellowship, sharing personal spiritual beliefs, and having questions answered are probably more readily obtainable in small groups than in Sunday services or church school classes.  Presently, our church has six Koinonia (pronounced coy-no-knee'-ah), or K-groups.  Koinonia means the Christian fellowship or body of believers.

K-1 studies 20th century theologians
K-2 has an interest in the arts and theater
K-4 helps a needy family and donates a SHARE food box each month
K-5 promotes children's sports and sportsmanship
K-8 promotes the International Heifer Project and enjoys good food
K-9 addresses some of the concerns of the elderly and sponsors a yearly "eighty and over" dinner.

The church welcomes the formation of other K-groups and extends invitations to join present groups.  K-group meeting times and places are listed in the church bulletin and the monthly newsletter.

Van Ministry is a special church-supported ministry that helps us fulfill our mission to take the Gospel of Christ to all and serve all ages.  The two 14-passenger vans are used in all areas of our church programs.  We bring children and adults, with no other means of transportation, to Sunday school, church services, and Vacation Bible School.  Our youth program makes extensive use of the vans for recreational activities, attendance at district and conference meetings, transportation to youth camps and to the games played by the church ball teams.

K-groups, United Methodist Men, United Methodist Women, and other adult groups book the vans for trips to district and conference meetings, spiritual enrichment events, musical events, plays, restaurants, sight-seeing trips, etc.  The SHARE food program also uses the van.  Call the church office  at 352-481-3155 to reserve the van and mark the calendar in the Fellowship Hall.
