About the Trip

On February 17th, 23 people from Northwest Michigan will leave Detroit for an 8 day mission in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The group includes two clergy, 7 youth and two children. The group will represent the entire Grand Traverse District of the United Methodist Church. The major project involves construction on the Delmas 33 Methodist Church. Plans are also being made to serve at Grace Children’s Hospital and the Haiti Hot Lunch Program.

This is a mission of personal involvement. The trip was offered to people of the Grand Traverse District as a way of getting personally involved in the lives of the Haitian People. There is no substitute for this kind of direct involvement in a mission experience. It is “incarnational” ministry. The incarnation of Jesus shows God’s desire to be personally involved with the human race, and to share in human sufferings. We are going, too, in the hope that we might share ourselves with the brothers and sisters who live in poverty and near-starvation in one of the world’s poorest nations.
