One Field—One Round Project<= /b>

Helping to Alleviate Hunger

= &nb= sp; Continuing through July

World Hunger is a = topic of discussion throughout the world in 2008. World hunger is a call to actio= n throughout the United Methodist Church in 2008.

Bishop Scott Jones= and the Kansas West Conference are calling the churches in the Kansas West Conference to action. = One Field—One Round is an action plan to help alleviate hunger in = the State of Kansas and in the nation of Haiti&#= 8212;the poorest nation in the world.

Listed below are hunger stats from a recent Kansas State study:

1. <= /span>A total of 69,000 children in K= ansas are hungry or at risk of being hungry.

2. <= /span>One of every 7 Kansas= children is hungry or at risk of being hungry.

3. <= /span>Among low income households with children younger that 12, 64% are hungry or at risk of being hungry.

4. <= /span>Children from hungry households have 2 ½ times the number of health problems (fatigu= e, irritability, headaches, colds, ear infections and absences from school) th= an children from non-hungry households.

5. <= /span>Income is often too low to feed children.

The Grace UMC Miss= ions Ministry Team has set a goal of $400 to send to this project. One-third of our gift will support= the food bank ministry in Wichita<= /st1:place>. One-third of our gifts will suppor= t the food bank ministry in western Kansas. One-third of our gifts will suppor= t the hot lunch program in Haiti.

Christ set the exa= mple to feed the hungry and taught that we are to reach out to others in need. In response to world hunger, we are invited to action, not discussion.

Chur= ch Women United Salad Lunch

Church Women Unite= d will be sponsoring one more Salad Lunch this summer. It will be on Monday, July 14th, from 11:00-1:00 pm, at Grace Episcopal Church. Everyone is invited to attend. Grace UM Church needs to contribute salads to the lunch. If you c= an make a salad, please contact Donna Jackson.

Shar= ing our Love with the

Hopkins’ Family

Pastor Kevin, Joni, Jordan, Marshall, and = Kedzie left Friday, June 20 for India to meet their daughters, Navya and Divya.&= nbsp; Navya is 12 years old and Divya is 8 years old.

The congregation of Grace UMC has given their love and support to the Hopkin= s’ Family as they begin this journey. Now we would like to do more!

To assist with their expenses we are beginni= ng a Love Offering to give to the Hopkins’ Family when they return to the United States.= We will be collecting monetary gifts through Sunday, July 13. Monetary gifts may be placed in the offering plate, left in the church office, or given to any member of the PS= PR Ministry Team.
