Missions of the
GROVEPORT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Go into all the
world and preach the
Good news to all creation.
Mark
16:15
Therefore go
and make disciples of all nations.
Matthew 28:19
Our purpose: Helping people understand how to change the world, near and far, by improving their quality of life and sharing the gospel in do-able ways.
Come join our Mission Committee! We welcome all members of the Groveport United Methodist Church to be part of the planning, preparation and completion of mission opportunities. Our current projects include:
Jackson
Area Ministries Seed Program:
We collect
vegetable seeds, in packets and bulk, and send to the JAM in
southeastern Ohio . The seeds are distributed to folks who then plant
gardens. In its most recent year, this program supplied seeds to 2928
gardens in 18 counties.
Military Care Packages:
We send “care” packages with food, personal care items, reading materials,
sports equipment, etc. to U.S. service personnel stationed overseas.
Good Works: A Community of Hope Work Camp: Good Works, Inc. provides social services, housing, food, transportation and other needs to southeastern Ohio residents. Each year we schedule a 1 or 2- day work camp at Good Works, taking part in their various projects.
Angel Tree Camping and Christmas: Working through the Prison Ministry of Charles Colson, at Christmas we “adopt” children living in our area whose parent(s) is/are incarcerated, providing them with clothing and toy items at Christmas. We sponsor these same children for summer camp at our United Methodist Church camps. The Prison Ministry supplies Bibles and camp backpacks for each child. Members of our church fill the backpacks with personal care supplies, and we also purchase a sleeping bag. We provided funds for transportation to and from camp.
The United Methodist Free Store supplies free clothing and household items to those in need. We support the Free Store throughout the year by donations of items and by volunteering to work in the Free Store. In August we collect, deliver and help sort school supplies, underwear and socks.
Samaritan's Purse: This is a Billy Graham Evangelistic Association program through which shoe boxes are filled with gifts for children all over the world. We fill shoe boxes with toys, clothing, school supplies and personal care items. After delivery to local and regional collection centers, the boxes, including locally-appropriate evangelistic material telling children about Jesus and salvation, are shipped to many other countries where there is a great need for spreading the Gospel and ministering to children.
Mitten-Hat Tree: At Christmas we ‘decorate’ a tree with hats, mittens, and scarves that are later donated to area schools for children in need.
Missions Trips: We provide funding for those active in the GUMC church ministries who wish to undertake missions trips, both in the US and abroad.
$5 on the 5th: We promote donations to the United Methodist Church ’s Children’s Home in Worthington , Ohio , thru church donations on the 5th Sunday of each month.
Recycling Cell Phone: We collect and donate to Choices, a local shelter for abused women, cell phones, chargers and accessories. Choices distributes these phones to women in need.
Over The Rhine Living Waters Ministry: Missions supports this street evangelism project in Cincinnati with financial donations. This year our pastor and two other members of the church also participated in this mission effort.
Groveport United Methodist Church is proud to support the Center for Groveport-Madison Human Needs, a local organization dedicated to connecting people in crises with resources and promoting cohesive households through community partnerships.
Our Missions Team meets at 6:00 p.m. on the second Monday of odd months. Come and be part of God’s work by God’s children, for His children!!
