Treasurer's Notes (Nancy Iverson)
Where has the year gone? As we bring 2007 to a close I want to thank everyone for their continued support and participation in United Methodist Women’s Mission through your financial giving and the many wonderful outreach opportunities that present themselves to us each year. WOW……What a blessing and a lot of Ditty Bags!!! Did you read the January 2007 Response article “Global Justice Volunteers: Igniting Passion for Mission” or the June 2007 Response article “2007 Budget Funds Mission Near and Far”, or perhaps the September 2007 Response article “Expanding Concepts of Mission Environmental Justice”? Our mission giving is being used to help many both nationally and internationally. I hope you take time to reflect on your many blessings. You have given to mission this year in many ways. Please ask your unit treasurer to share how your unit has supported the Mission of United Methodist Women in 2007.
Fourth quarter pledges are coming in and with everyone’s commitment to supporting the mission outreach of United Methodist Women we may make our 2007 pledge of $130,000.00. Let us continue to support our PURPOSE of growing in our understanding of and willingness to participate in the global ministries of the church. Each unit has their own special mission outreach that is important but at year end I remind you of “EMPTYING THE TREASURY”. You will find reference to this in the “Focus on Local and District Units Handbook” United Methodist Women 2005-2008, page 77. United Methodist Women mission giving should be your first line of giving with support to local mission programs and ecumenical mission secondary. As a reminder inappropriate contributions include: financial responsibilities of the local church (parsonage, kitchen or building fund contributions), Boy or Girl Scouts and the United Way Fund. If you have any questions concerning your year end reporting, please call me.
At the District Annual Meeting the offering collected for mission giving totaled $1,051.23. Many units supported 2 Pennies and a Prayer turning in a total of $913.22.
If you are contributing through all five channels of Mission Giving and still have one or two left to complete, it is not too late. Make sure your unit treasurer has all your giving before December 12th to satisfy the Rainbow Givers requirements; Pledge to Mission, Gift to Mission, Gift in Memory, World Thank Offering and a Special Mission Recognition for someone of your choosing.
It is time for all treasurers to renew their commitment and return to training in January. There are several items that need updating and reviewing and training is the best opportunity to collect all the information. Please join me for Treasurers training on Saturday, January 26th at St. Paul UMC in Largo. There will be current policies and information to review and changes to discuss. Even if you have attended training in the past all treasurers should attend again.
My wish for all is a Peaceful and Prosperous 2008
