Social Action (Becky Visot-O’Neal, Coordinator) Continue to volunteer in the schools because we are still promoting public education issues and we strongly suggest units conduct a Public Education Mission Study. The Campaign for Children Phase III is continuing. Information about this can be found in Response Magazine and at the Florida Impact website. The Conference encourages you to go to the Florida Impact website to gather information on the public policies we advocate. The Gulf Coast District is a member of Florida Impact. See more information at www.flimimpact.org. Uplift the Charter for Racial Justice by doing a related program once a year. Phone or write you legislators on behalf of the hungry and poor - you can make a difference! Breast Cancer Awareness A Message from your Social Action
Coordinator
As social action and supportive community, United Methodist
women can connect to the community by mentoring, tutoring and advocating for
school children. We promote the mission study on Public Education. "We believe
responsibility for education of the young rests with the family, the church, and
the government." (Social Principles of the United Methodist Church). Social Action Resources
The
United Methodist Women's Action Network can keep you informed. See
g Make your thoughts known to your elected officials. You can contact your elected officials a number of ways: Go to your voter ID card and look for your district number. Then look up your legislator's name in the phone book's government pages. Or you can go to the legislative or congressional sites below and based on your zip code, locate your legislator and his/her phone number, mailing address or email address. You can call, write letters to their office or email them. Most will respond to your letter. Stand up for the voiceless!
