Fulfilling Our Purpose

To know God, to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the Global ministries of the church.

The Gulf Central Mission Team is fulfilling our Purpose in many and varied ways. We participate in both local unit and district gatherings as a community through district sponsored events and our Loving Links visitation program. Loving Links are the connectional link from the District to the Conference. They are available to visit unit meetings, to aid in finding solutions to problems and to supply information to the units. Officer counterparts are also in contact with unit officers through mail, phone and an officer training event. Lasting friendships have developed among many members through this program.

Message from our VP

It is with a degree of sadness that I write my last article as a district officer.  I feel like I have been on a Disney ride for the past 8 years.   It has been fun, challenging, exciting, at times a little scary and it often elevated my blood pressure and gave me sleepless nights especially before a big event.  There have been times that I have sat quietly waiting for the ride to begin and other times when I have reached out and grabbed the nearest person for comfort and stability.  I have to say that I was always pleased with the outcome of every program.  Program participants always went above and beyond what was required of them and gave me their best effort.   Change is good we are told, but when it is you, well, that is a different story.  Closing a door on something that has been so much of a part of you isn’t all that easy.  I am excited about the door that is opening to a new ride and I hope to continue to be of service to the Gulf Central District in that capacity.

Be supportive of the programs and meetings that are planned for the District in 2008.  Make them a priority by putting them on your unit and church calendars and talking them up whenever possible.  If you need more information, call your loving link or a district officer.  The speaker for the 2007 District Annual Meeting, Rev. Geraldine McClellan, District Superintendent from the North Central District, was one of the best event speakers I have heard in a long time.  It was such a privilege to have her as our keynote speaker.  She definitely led us to Rise! Shine! Glorify God!!

Our next event will be Unit Officer Training in the Life Enrichment Center at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Largo on January 26, 2008.  After we gather in the main fellowship hall, classes will be conducted for unit officers and circle leaders.  This is a great time to fellowship and exchange ideas with fellow United Methodist Women from all over our District.  The Resource Room will be available giving you the opportunity to purchase books for programs and the Reading Program.  The program is only in the morning so you might want to go to a nearby restaurant with your “team” and have lunch.

I cannot thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to grow in my faith, to make lasting Christian friendships and to see first hand the wonderful things the United Methodist Women are doing all across our district and in the world of mission.  I am so blessed.
