Welcome!

A message from Gulf Central District President: Ellie Myers

The Even though we’re already in the third month of this year there are lots of exciting and interesting things coming up. But first, I want to thank all of you who came to the Leadership Training Event in January. We were so pleased with the wonderful turnout and I hope all of you learned and enjoyed the morning at St. Paul’s UMC. We thank the ladies who made us feel welcome and were such great hosts. If you were not able to attend, you will probably want to contact your counterpart on the District to obtain any pertinent information you may need to carry out your duties.

Now, heads up ladies. The Retreat is coming real soon and we hope you will plan on attending. Last year’s one-day Spiritual Retreat Event at Brooker Creek was a huge success, but many of you said you missed the weekend retreat
in Leesburg. (So did I.) So this is your chance to prove your point and come on May 1, 2, and 3. Roberta Lau has many fun and inspirational activities planned, the speaker is outstanding and the music team is too. Get a roommate and send
in your application now. By the way, the location is the same place outside of Leesburg, they are just using the name of the little town, Fruitland Park, as their address.

Soon after the Retreat, we are holding a Financial Workshop designed and presented by the Florida Conference UMW at First UMC, Dunedin on May 16. See Treasurer's Notes for more details.

In July we have the School of Christian Mission, which is returning to Florida Southern College this year. This is a real “must” in order to have great mission studies next year. Not only will you learn a lot, but you will meet new people and have a good time. Bring your children and grandchildren— there are special programs for them. I took my grandchildren for many years and it was really a rewarding experience for me and for them. (They are all in college now.)

Summer Fellowship follows soon after the school, and it is always a fun and interesting day—plan on finding out what delights East Lake UMW will provide for us on August 15. That seems like a long time away, but you know how time flies!

I want to commend you again. I have heard rave reviews on the Mission Studies already held. Isn’t it fun to get together with other churches and meet other people—and didn’t you learn a lot? Don’t forget to call the District Officers if
you need help or just invite them to one of your meetings. Let us hear from you, and my prayers are with all of you.
