Our Mission for the Koinonia Ministry is...

"Relationally to connect people in small groups for the purpose of growing in Christian faith and understanding, loving and caring for each other, and contributing to the ministry of His Body (Church), in order to glorify God and make disciples of all nations."

Assumptions of our Mission Statement

Method:
A small group provides the best environment for the life that Jesus Christ intends for every believer.

Model:
The most strategic person in the life-changed process of the church is the small group leader.

Mechanism:
Small groups must expand and then multiply so that eventually every believer can be connected to others.

Means:
Effective ministry happens in an atmosphere of prayer and celebration.

Koinonia:
Koinonia is a Greek word used in the New Testament meaning "fellowship." It involves a mutual sharing of joys and sorrows, sins and struggles, as well as victories. This fellowship nourishes, sustains, guides, rebukes and understands each person in an atmosphere of love. We believe this can be experienced most fully in a small group.

Purpose:
  • to provide an atmosphere for Koinonia where close personal relationships will develop
  • to give opportunity for a person to discover and use his/her spiritual gifts
  • to offer a safe setting to invite others to Jesus Christ
What is a Koinonia Group?
A Koinonia Group consists of six to fifteen persons who meet every week.
Church of the Good Shepherd has groups that meet in the evenings, during the day and Saturday mornings.

Some groups meet in homes others meet in the church lounge where a warm, informal environment can be established.

Each K-group is led by a shepherd and a shepherd intern.

Content:

  • Bible Study: more than knowledge; how the text can be applied to daily life.
  • sharing of one's struggles and one's faith
  • praying together for concerns of individuals and the group

The Group will:

  • develop a close relationship with Jesus Christ and one another
  • continually enlarge its circle of love to take in one more person
  • will multiply or give birth to another group when it grows large enough

How do I get involved?

  • leave your name and phone number at the Welcome Center in the church lobby
  • contact one of the pastors or call the church office or click here.
  • make a note of your interest on the Ritual of Friendship pad in church

VISION STATEMENT FOR KOINONIA MINISTRY

Our vision is to bring seekers into a new or deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through the ministry of Koinonia groups.

Through the weekly meetings

  • persons will be encouraged to discover and develop their God-given gifts
  • they will find answers to their life questions through interactive Bible study, in-depth sharing and prayer
  • members will receive nurture and caring

Within this confidential community, we will strive to involve persons from inside and outside this church and work continuously toward multiplication, thus giving life to new groups and moving out into mission and ministry.
