Grinter Chapel UMC

"Grinter Chapel"

a poem by Jim Ennes,

written to commemorate the arrival of a past pastor,

Rev. Lydia Istomina

This little church stands high on a hill

It has sustained all through the years - by God's Will

The church stands here due to the efforts of Moses Grinter.

It has served God for every spring, summer, fall, and winter.

Whether from land, money, or maybe his fame,

This church now and will always bear his name.

As is noted his faith and beliefs were strong;

that this house would always to God would belong.

It was evident to this man - this church was dear;

he would worship God here for many a year.

This church became the areas social point and center.

It was always open to those who would care to enter.

When on earth the time came for Moses to be gone,

the church was left for others to carry on.

Moses was laid to rest nearby in the ground,

the work and deeds of this man's life are all around.

The mementos he has left behind still abound,

in this church today a picture of him can be found.

To this church many pastors God has sent,

They came to preach and worship, and then they went.

And now the last of those have long departed,

The new pastor's name of "Lydia" was sent and has now started.

She tends the church always with a smile on her face,

her persona reflects a rare beauty and grace.

She speaks with great passion, joy, and love,

as she teaches the bible and the wonders of God above.

The words she speaks are poetry and music to hear;

the message she brings becomes bright and clear.

May this church continue to serve as God intends,

until God gives the "All aboard call" for all to ascend.
