Terrace Heights is a rapidly developing neighborhood, east of Yakima and adjacent to the Yakima River. In February 1998, Percept developed a community profile of the Terrace Heights region on behalf of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church. At the time, 7,097 persons lived in the study area. The area had grown by 36.4% since 1980. The area was projected to continue to grow by 6.6% during the next five years. Both of these figures are approximately twice the growth rate of the United States as a whole.

The predominant lifestyles identified by the study were "suburban mid-life families" and "young suburban families." The area is growing because young families view Terrace Heights as a safe place to raise children and establish homes.

While the area is growing, a large number of the new residents are not active in their faith (42.8% as compared to the US average of 37.9%). This is consistent with the younger generations of young families in our country who are becoming generally less involved in church life and active faith.

It is important to note, however, that the new church will be based in Terrace Heights, but will seek to reach out to the younger generations living in the city of Yakima, as well.
