This non-profit wing oversees, supports, and develops the community program ministries that began in the church. Initial programs under the Board's care include the following:
Working with the Winston-Salem Institute for Dismantling Racism and Crossroads Ministry, we seek to overcome racism. Race prejudice + the misuse of power by systems and institutions = Racism. Our goal is to address institutional racism both within and without our walls.
Volunteers and members sort and distribute food and used clothing to people in need. This ministry is done in collaboration with the Second Harvest Food Bank and with area churches that contribute canned food and clean usable clothing. Clothing needs vary throughout the year, but items for men and boys are always needed. We request that donations match with the seasons.
This program, for children in the West Salem neighborhood, is done in collaboration with the Second Harvest Food Bank and the YMCA. College interns and tutors of all ages meet Monday through Thursday from 2 to 6:00 p.m. for reading, computers, art, recreation, and a nutritious meal. More than 30 children find a safe place to support their work at school. Volunteers are screened through the YMCA Outreach Program. To help, please contact the church office, 722-8379, or the YMCA outreach office, 722-9772.
Part outreach to West Salem, part food program, part weekly fellowship gathering--our Welcome Table Community Supper meets at 5:58 p.m. on Wednesdays. Other churches and neighborhood groups serve as co-hosts, planning, preparing, and serving meals. The weekly program begins when school starts and is held through the second week in November and again from January to mid-May.
A free clinic is held for people without insurance or who are underinsured. The clinic is open from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m. each Wednesday when the Welcome Table is open and monthly throughout the summer. The days this summer the clinic is open are July 9, July 23, Aug 6 and August 20.
