“For it was you who formed my inward parts, you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Wonderful are your works:  that I know very well.”    Psalm 139: 13-14 NRSV

      Prayer shawls are free and are available in the church in the office.   Shawls are given to someone who is ill, grieving, or has a changing life events like the birth of a child, divorce, marriage, graduation etc. All shawls are made by people who pray over the work as they knit or crochet.  The prayers are meant to envelop the receiver in love…like giving them a hug.  Each giver can offer their own personal prayers when giving the shawl.     

      The Prayer Shawl Ministry at our church was started in October of 2006.  This ministry is open to everyone and includes people who are unable to attend the evening meetings. People from out of town make shawls and brings them to our church.   We not only knit and crochet, but also weave, quilt, tat and other hand crafts. Some members donate yarn or money towards the purchase of yarn and other materials. Lessons in knitting and crocheting are also available for those who want to learn.

     By combining prayer and hand-made shawls we want to bring God’s love, through the comfort and warmth of hand made items.
