Meeting Minutes

The nurturing ministries of the congregation shall give attention to but not be limited to education, worship, Christian formation, membership care, small groups, and stewardship. Attention must be given to the needs of individuals and families of all ages.

The outreach ministries of the church shall give attention to local and larger community ministries of compassion, justice, and advocacy. These ministries include church and society, global ministries, higher education and campus ministry, health and welfare, Christian unity and interreligious concerns, religion and race, and the status and role of women.

The witness ministries of the church shall give attention to developing and strengthening evangelistic efforts of sharing of personal and congregational stories of Christian experience, faith, and service; communications; lay speaking ministries, and other means that give expressions of witness for Jesus Christ.

Why do people need Christ?
  • To learn how to lead a good life, to be a good person
  • Christ is a role model
  • To get to heaven
  • To get hope for this life and to know there's something afterwards
  • To get out of "it's all about me": to do service for others
  • To receive comfort
  • To be an intermediary for us with God, a bridge to God, as we are too sinful to go to God directly
  • To have a relationship, a friend

Why do people need The Church?
  • Fellowship, support, comfort
  • Peer pressure
  • A way to achieve Christ's example; many can achieve more than one
  • To have people to turn to
  • To keep us grounded in Christ's teaching; reinforce Christ's teaching
  • To learn
  • Opportunities to serve are provided
  • To receive support through prayer
  • To get a spiritual component in our lives

Why do people need Gray's United Methodist Church?
  • Location
  • It's a Methodist church
  • It's a neighborhood church, in our community
  • One's voice is heard
  • Programs to teach children (preschool, Sunday School, Youth Groups)
  • Small size; aren't lost in the crowd
  • Everyone is needed to get the work done
  • There are children present; a young congregation

To whom does our church belong?
  • To Christ
  • To our community
