A Sort Glimpse of our History

  • Granville Ave. United Methodist Church celebrated its 100th anniversary on June 20, 2005.
  • The church was established on June 20th of 1905 to serve the rapidly expanding Chicago metropolis.
  • The church building was constructed in 1908.
  • A garden setting, which continues to the present,  was developed by Pastor Benjamin Will in 1934.
  • The building experienced a major fire in 1947. A Fellowship Hall was added in 1958.
  • As Edgewater became multicultural and multiracial in the 1980s the church responded with open doors that have welcomed an increasingly diverse gathering of persons seeking the presence of God.
