Christian Education at Grace

Children Youth Adults

Grace’s program of Christian Education for children, youth, adults and families is designed to help you grow in your knowledge of the Scriptures and in the Christian faith.  Whether you just walked through our doors or you’ve been around the church for a long time, we welcome all ages to partake of these opportunities with us to enrich your understanding and experience of God. During the year, the Grace Christian Education Program offers a wide range of classes and learning experiences ranging from weekly classes, short-term studies and groups, to those that last the school year. We also plan special studies during the Advent and Lenten seasons.

Children

Nursery and cribbery
We provide childcare during the 10 a.m. Worship Service for infants in our Nursery and appropriate activity and care for those of toddler age.

Preschool class
Our preschool-age students meet in a traditional classroom setting during the 10 a.m. Worship Service. They learn stories and about characters in the Bible. Children are given the opportunity to handle the Bible and see others read from it, hear and learn prayers, and learn of God’s love and helping others.

Elementary
G.R.O.W.L (Grace Rotation Workshop Learning)
Sunday mornings at 10 a.m.
Using the rotation model, children in first through sixth grades are exposed to a variety of teaching and learning styles. This model relies on the different learning modes to utilize each person’s unique spiritual gifts and promotes multiple ways of knowing God. Integrated into curriculum are arts and crafts, Bible knowledge, maps and science, drama and storytelling, computer programs, movies, cooking, games, music, and worship. Children rotate to a different workshop each Sunday during a 4-8 week unit, culminating in a Celebration service in the church with the congregation.

Vacation Bible School
A weekday morning Vacation Bible School for younger children is held for one week during the early summer in which students follow the United Methodist curriculum which incorporates Bible Study with story telling, music, crafts, drama, etc. The dates for VBS 2008 are June 23-27 from 9 a.m. to noon. Click here for more information.

Biblical Studies

Invitation to Travel (on a Spiritual Journey)
Sunday mornings beginning at 11:30 p.m.
Led by Jack Danz
Join us on a spiritual journey to discover and explore some old but new interpretations of what it means to have “God dwell within us.” Discussion based on Marcus Borg’s Reading the Bible Again for the First Time. Bring a sandwich and let’s spend an hour embarking together on our journey.

“In the Beginning”
Tuesday mornings at 9:45 a.m.*
Led by Dr. Emora T. Brannan
Genesis is the “Book of Beginnings.” We will be looking at the Creation, human nature and the beginnings of the story of God’s redemptive love for God’s people. So much is rooted in these sacred stories that we might well call our study “Back to the Future.”
