WORKSHOP ON: “RELIGION AND SCIENCE”

This class meets on Sundays, 10:15 am in the Parlor with Rev. Jim Reuteler and Lyle Stewart . Everyone is welcome as each Sunday covers a different topic.

COVENANT DISCIPLESHIP

I believe that the most important task the church has is to form disciples. Those who become disciples are motivated to use their spiritual gifts to make a difference in the community, not just in the church. I wish we could form disciples in a six or eight week course, but being formed into a disciple takes a lifetime. It also means putting things in the proper perspective. What is that perspective? I believe it begins with the primary emphasis being placed on forming disciples and that fellowship and programming will follow. We frequently put the primary emphasis on programming or fellowship and hope they will form disciples. Programs, however, are task-centered, not people-centered. Fellowship is important, but discipleship is the primary goal. There will be, however, a deep bond and fellowship among disciples.

We now have three Covenant Discipleship Groups meeting. These groups do not meet for six or eight weeks and stop. These are open-ended groups in which people can build deep relationships and discover at the same time their spiritual gifts. As these groups grow, they will be divided. The ideal size of a group is 5-7. When a group grows to 10, it will be divided into two groups of 5. I believe everyone should be in such a group. It's the method of Methodism and Biblical at the same time. Groups create a covenant that everyone in the group agrees with, and then, they share with one another how they're doing with the covenant. The covenant and the groups set us on a lifelong journey of discipleship. Below are the times and places the three groups are meeting. If you are interested, you should join the group that is either closest to you or meets on a day you can meet.
