Some Thoughts and Ramblings of a Guy Named Sam

As we look towards All Saints Day I began to search out the readings for that day. What I found was of interest to me and I thought I would share it with you. While we will be using John’s Gospel (John 11: 32-44), others will be using as their Gospel reading the one from Matthew.

Matthew 5: 1-12 is better known to us as “The Beatitudes.” It is one of those parts of the Bible that as a child we had to memorize. “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” “Blessed are those that mourn, for they will be comforted.” That in turn lead me back to “The Hebrew Bible” in the book of Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time a time die...A time to mourn and a time to dance.”

Yet as we go through those times of mourning, we ask the question so often uttered: “Why? Why is this happening? Why now?” We ask this question even though deep inside we know the answer. We know all things happen in God’s time. We also know that the promise of comfort will come and yes, even that time of dancing. For the LORD our God keeps His promises. So find the time for yourself with God’s help to rejoice. Yes — rejoice for the saints that have been part of your life.

Again, just some thoughts and ramblings from a guy named Sam.

Peace and joy,
      Pastor Sam
