HENRY & JUDY BUTTON SCHOLARSHIP

Deadline for Scholarship Application:  May 1, 2009

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Criteria for eligibility:

□          Official graduation from Texas High School or Accredited Home School Program during the 2008-09 school year.

□          Intent to attend or enrollment at (less than 30 hours) accredited university, college, or vocational/technical school.

□          Completion of scholarship application, including transcripts and letters of recommendation.

Application process:

□          Get application from high school counselor’s office or from the FUMC website:  www.gbgm-umc.org/goliad/buttonapplication.htm  or e-mail your request for an application to fumcgoliad@sbcglobal.net

□          Completed application, including all letters of recommendation and 1-page written statement discussing your future educational and vocational/career goals and how you plan to use the scholarship money.

□          Request copies of your official transcript of your high school grades and ACT/SAT scores from the school counselor’s office.  If you have any college credits or hours (under 20 to be eligible), please request a cop of your official transcript from the university/college office of admissions.

□          Get two letters of recommendation.  One letter of recommendation must be from a high school teacher from whom you took a class so he/she can address your academic potential and achievement.  The other letter may be from someone other than a classroom teacher such as a coach, administrator, or employer.

□          Submit FOUR COPIES of you completed scholarship application, including all letters of recommendation, prior to deadline of May 1, 2009.  Turn in application packet to:  First United Methodist Church – Goliad Office (134 W. Pearl, Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.)

            OR Goliad High School Counselor’s Office (749 N. Church, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.)

This scholarship will be awarded based on quality of application and how well applicant meets the criteria.  High School Grades, ACT scores, and financial need will be considered but will not be the only basis for scholarship award.

Scholarships must be used within 12 months of award date for education-related expenses.  All recipients AND THEIR PARENT OR GUARDIAN must sign the Scholarship Terms of Agreement.
