A GLANCE AT THE PAST

This month we thought we would glance back at our Youth Group and see what they were doing 52 years ago. We found quite a few familiar names in the minutes. We also noted that they were just as busy as our MYF is today. Here then are the minutes for the November 19, 1950 meeting. (In the year 2050, someone from today’s MYF who will be the Church Historian then, will report from their minutes when they glance at the past.) “November 19, 1950 For the topic of the devotional period this evening, Pete Nace spoke on “Faith”. He spoke on it under three headings: Faith in God, faith in yourself, and faith in your fellowman. He defined the word as meaning “hope”. From there, he proceeded to discuss the word and it’s meaning under each of the headings. It was a very good talk and everyone agreed it was much better than reading the topic. Janet Baumann then called the business meeting to order. The minutes were read. A report of the amount in the whole MYF treasury was given by the treasurer, Jimmy Thomas. It was also reported that our group has in its own small treasury $ 3.40. The question of allowing the younger group to attend the swimming party was brought up. It was finally decided that they should be allowed to attend since other boys and girls from other churches were going. All those who are going are to meet at the church on Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM.A letter from the Trumbull County secretary was read in which a Christmas party was announced to be held in our church on Dec.10th. The entertainment comes under three headings - Faith, Food, and Fun. Everyone is asked to bring a small gift for the children in the children’s home in Berea. Reverend Dittman showed us the record player in which our group invested. This may be put under the service heading because it will be used not only for our folk games but also for the children in the primary department. There is to be a rally at Akron this coming Friday and Saturday. The cost is three dollars. As yet, no one is going. Next week Phyllis Evans will have the topic and Joe Henninger the devotions. The meeting was then adjourned.Sec. E. Christine Irwin”
