History of The United Methodist Church of Genoa City, Wisconsin
The Methodist Church of Genoa City was started by twelve Methodist at the Center School in 1841. They met in member's homes, public buildings, and at times in the local church in Richmond, Illinois.
In 1890, they had a building fund to purchase property for a Sunday School and preaching room. There was a fellowship hall in the upper part to serve suppers.
In 1891, this building was formally dedicated and a Sunday School was organized in 1892 with 46 pupils attending.
In 1894, the month of September, ground was broken for the foundation section upon which was erected the auditorium of the building.
In the late 1930's, the basement was enlarged making room for a kitchen and a dining room. The work was donated by the members of the church.
This building has now been renamed the First United Methodist Church of Genoa City, Wisconsin and is located on the corner of Sumner and Booth Streets.
