FELLOWSHIP
GROUPS
"WE WELCOME YOU" to join us in Christian
fellowship. Opportunities to gather together at our church include
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION, MUSIC, YOUTH and
ADULT fellowship groups. We also
have CAREGIVING MINISTRIES which offer love and support to those in need.
Full descriptions of each group are given below.
CHRISTIAN
EDUCATION STUDY GROUPS Top
We have a
full Sunday School Education program each Sunday morning from 9:30am – 10:30am and 11:00am – 12:00 noon.
We offer classes for 3-year olds through 12th
grade, as well as adult small groups.
(Nursery care for infants – 2 year olds is provided
during Sunday School and Church services.)
We also provide weekday and evening classes as
scheduled and a weeklong
Vacation Bible school program in the summer.
As
you can see, at GBUMC Sunday School isn’t just for kids.
We offer many Sunday and weekday opportunities for
adults to grow in their faith as well.
Life long learning, and growth in faith are a
priority here! Our adult groups cover a variety of topics from a firm
scriptural grounding, including…
- In
depth explorations of individual books of the Bible
- Parenting
and marriage enrichment
- Prayer
and spiritual disciplines
- Current
events and issues facing today’s Christians
Our
church also offers special seasonal classes for advent and
lent as well as long term studies such as “Disciple”,
“Companions in Christ” and “Christian Believer”.
Long term studies form in September of each year.

YOUTH
MINISTRY Top
Youth (6th grade through 12th) are a fundamental part of
the ministry at GBUMC. They are active as leaders in the
church as well as providing leadership in worship, ushers,
greeters, acolytes and musicians. The youth meet regularly
and are active in district and conference youth events.
They reach out by serving in the community as well as
participating in the Appalachia
Service Project. After high school, our young adults
meet regularly to continue their ministry through fellowship and
mission.
| Sr.
High UMYF |
These
young adults are encouraged to learn more about their own relationship
with Jesus Christ, and even challenged to do so! There is
some healthy competition and team activities, employing discussion on
every day topics where our Christianity may be tested. The relationships
that are formed in this setting and the trust that develops will be a
lasting reminder to your teen that unconditional love and acceptance still
does exist, even in at this often tumultuous and uncertain time in their
lives, i.e., High School. |
| Jr.
High UMYF |
Jr.
High UMYF focuses on Christian Fellowship through sharing time and
commitment. We create a strong group bond through giving back to our
community and church. Whether it is working at the soup kitchen,
sorting can goods for thanksgiving baskets, babysitting for children of
our congregation, planning a worship service, or enjoying on of our many
recreational activities, we are a connected group that finds great joy in
reaching out to others.
For grades 6 through 8, 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month and other
activities as scheduled.

CAREGIVING
MINISTRIES Top
Stephen
Ministry |
The
Stephen Ministry Program provides a Christian caring ministry to people
struggling with issues in their life. Some examples of these issues might be dealing with the loss of a loved one, the struggle of going
through and dealing with a divorce, dealing with medical problems or crisis, and being lonely. This ministry is handled by members of the
congregation who have gone through extensive training and are
participating in continuing education and peer supervision. This
ministry is strictly confidential between the Stephen Minister and the
person receiving the caring support. This program does not replace
the professional care someone might be getting. The Stephen Ministry
program is available to members of our congregation and the Grand Blanc
community. |
| Prayer
Shawl Ministry |
Care and the love of knitting (and crochet)
have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches to those in need
of comfort and solace. Many blessings are knitted into every shawl presented
to people
experiencing grief, illness or celebrating life transitions. The knitter
begins each shawl with prayers for the recipient. When the shawl is
completed it is offered a final dedication before being sent along its
way. If you'd like to join us, we meet Wednesdays from 10:00am - 12:00
noon. And for those who work weekdays or attend school, we also meet on
Saturdays from 10:00am - 12:00 noon. If you are new to knitting or
crocheting, we can teach you the basics to produce a shawl. Please contact
Lynn Manderville at 810/694-9040 for more information. |
| Charity
Circle |
A
division of the United Methodist Women who meet as the
need arises for special projects. |
