ABOUT OUR PASTOR
Hello,
It is my privilege to introduce you to Grand Blanc United Methodist Church.
We are blessed with very active children’s and youth programs.
We have two sessions of Sunday school each week with classes for children
of every age, plus several adult classes.
The youth fellowship enjoys an active and exciting program with about
forty teenagers involved with the Jr. and Sr. High groups.
Our music program is
diverse with a chancel choir, three bell choirs, an adult praise band, both a
youth praise vocal and instrumental group, and two children’s choirs.
We have folk music at our 8:30am. service, and a newly-acquired organ played by Lee Pelton as
well as choir music at our 10:00am. service.
There is music for all to make a joyful noise to the Lord!
Grand Blanc United
Methodist Church is very active in missions supporting three missionaries, Crop
Walk, Habitat for Humanity, and many local and national missions.
We also have a Stephen Ministry Program with trained lay people who
minister to those in crisis and life transitions.
There is something
for everyone here as the congregation continues to grow and make disciples for
Christ. We are a congregation whose
purpose is “Knowing,
Loving and Sharing God.” Our 525
members take diversity seriously, as we are a church of “Open Hearts, Open
Minds and Open Doors.” Our door
is open to you as we invite you to join us in worshipping God and growing in
Christ.
Grace and peace,
Pat England

Greetings to all of our new friends and
co-workers in Christian service in Grand Blanc. Though we
haven't yet met most of you, we are confidant that the
relationship is going to be a good one. We are looking
forward to getting to know you and serving Christ with you,
even though we are up to our ears packing boxes as I write
this little note.
We would like to thank all of those who have been
preparing the way for our arrival and getting ready for
transition, with special thanks to those who have spent
countless hours in the parsonage search, purchase, clean-up
and preparation. It is a beautiful home for us to move into
and enjoy and our hope is to live there a good long time.
Thanks also to Roger and Dorothy Colby for their gracious
help in our transition, even as they have been preparing
themselves for the mysterious life called retirement.
Thankfully, even in the midst of transition, there is a
most significant "continuity" that unites us all.
We are all people made in the "image of God",
which I believe is one of the most significant statements in
the whole Bible. We are also people plagued by frailty and
sin, which should give us ample opportunity to practice
forgiveness. We are people loved passionately by God, so
much so that he sent his son, Jesus Christ to atone for our
sin and open the door to heaven and eternity through his
resurrection. We are people who have placed their faith in
Christ (or at least we are considering his claim on our
life) and are striving to grow in knowledge, trust, and
Christ like service. We are people filled with the Holy
Spirit and special spiritual gifts that God gives us for the
building up of the Church.
We look forward to sharing the Christian journey with
you. |

PURPOSE
In
January of 2000 the church Administrative Council adopted a brief, concise
statement, representative of these commitments as a vision of outcome, a
continuing ever-striving action of “Knowing, Loving and Sharing God.”
This “vision statement” will hopefully serve to guide our development
and growth by determining goals and priorities. It will also easily and quickly identify our commitment to
God’s mission for our church for all who enter through our doors.
The
purpose of the Grand Blanc United Methodist Church is to act as an extension of
Jesus Christ in ministering
to all human needs as they develop in a changing world.
To this end, we commit ourselves to:
- “Be
a community of people who carry out a comprehensive ministry through
worship, Christian education, mission outreach, corporate witness and
stewardship.
- Grow
in our love of God and give personal witness to the Christian faith in the
living of our daily lives.
- Work
for peace and justice in all our relationships.
- Affirm
our commitment to United Methodist connectionalism and ecumenism
strengthening our experience of Christian community and,
Proclaim
the Good News that God is with us in our struggle toward wholeness as
individuals and a society.”
MISSION
- Our
mission is to make Disciples for Jesus Christ.
Outreach
and Mission Program
The
Grand Blanc United Methodist Outreach Program includes salary support for three
missionaries, participation in Habitat for Humanity, Crop Walk, local support to
FISH and Dort-Oak Park Neighborhood House.
Our youth reach out by serving in the community as well as participating
in the Appalachia Service Project. This
is in addition to our annual contribution to the United Methodist mission
programs. For
more information about some of these programs or about the United Methodist
Church Flint District, Detroit Conference or global organizations, please click on the LINKS button at the top of this page.
