Opportunities to Serve in Music
Worship and fellowship through great music have
always been an important part
of out lives at the United Methodist Church of Garden Grove. Our beautiful sanctuary,
with its superb acoustics, inspiring pipe organ, wonderful grand piano, and delightful
harpsichord, provides the perfect setting for powerful and meaningful musical
experiences of all kinds.
We cordially invite you to look at these opportunities for your participation, as
well as the concerts and other special events that are offered during the year.
We hope that you will find many ways in which your spiritual life may be enriched.

ADULT CHOIRS

The adult choirs prepare music for worship and for concerts presented during the
year. |
- Chancel Choir
Our primary service choir for adults and qualified high school students.
Rehearsals: Thursdays, 7:30 - 9:30 pm
- Madrigal Singers
Membership is by invitation; those interested should contact the director. Madrigals
perform during morning worship and for various events.
Rehearsals: Sundays, 10:45 - 11:45 am
KOREAN AND SAMOAN CHOIRS
Both of these congregations have a choir performing in Korean or Samoan for their
services.

CHILDREN & YOUTH CHOIRS

These choirs prepare a wide variety of music and each performs in church once a
month. |
- Cherub Choir
Children's choir, ages five through second grade.
Regular performance in morning worship on the 3rd Sunday of the month.
Rehearsals: At present Cherub and Chorister Choirs
are combined. Both groups meet Tuesdays, 4:00 to 4:40 pm.
- Chorister Choir
Children's choir, grades three through six.
Regular performance in morning worship on the 2nd Sunday of the month.
Choristers also participate in an annual Children's Choir Festival.
Rehearsals: At present Cherub and Chorister Choirs
are combined. Both groups meet Tuesdays, 4:00 to 4:40 pm.
- Sonshine Singers
Youth choir, grades seven through twelve; perform all styles of music appropriate
to the age group.
Regular performance in morning worship on the 1st Sunday of the month.
Rehearsals: Thursdays, 4:30 - 5:15 pm
BELL CHOIRS |

- Sanctuary Bell Choir

For experienced high school and adult bell ringers. This choir rings during morning
worship, several times throughout the year.
Rehearsals: Thursdays, 6:15 - 7:15 pm
- Spirit Ringers

Fourth through eighth grade students who prepare a variety of music and perform
in morning worship as they are ready.
Rehearsals: Thursdays, 5:15 - 6:00 pm
- Angelsong
Debbie Shaw, director
Membership is by invitation; those interested should contact the director. Angelsong
performs during worship and for various events.

CHOIR SCHOOLS |

- Children's Choir School

Held the last week of June
Annual week-long program of note reading, vocal, recorder, autoharp, and handbell
instruction. Activities include swimming three days, and a movie & hot dog
dinner on Thursday. The members of the choir school present a concert on Friday
evening at 7:00 pm and perform for worship on the Sunday immediately following
choir school.

Annual July through August program in basic note reading and music vocabulary, as
well as vocal performance.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
As with any organization of performers, there is a need for a support team.
Friends of Music handles the fund-raising efforts to support the concerts
presented during the year. Individuals with the gift of Administration are encouraged
to consider being a part of this organization. No performance skills are required.
Helping Hands to set up and take down risers, move chairs, move handbells
and tables, set up the sound system, etc. are always welcome.

Did you know...
Our music department has two tympani, 5 octaves of handbells, 3 octaves of hand
chimes, use of a set of Orff instruments and various rhythm instruments, and
access to electronic keyboards and a drum set.
Our extensive music library includes anthems from the Renaissance through some
of the most contemporary writers. The collection also contains handbell music
and orchestral parts for major works.
Our sanctuary organ is from The Reuter Organ Company of Lawrence Kansas, Opus 1489.
It was designed by Clarence Mader, and installed in 1966 by Justin Kramer. It has
3 manuals and 48 ranks.
