Ahead of Time
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for the gifts we have not opened yet.
Thank you for the people we have not discovered yet.
Thank you for the battles and victories we are going to win.
Thank you for the undiscovered talents you have hidden just for us.
Thank you for the right words we will speak when confronted with a situation we
could not anticipate.
You already have!
You are the Lord of our future.
Thank you for loving us ahead of time!
In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
Bad Things
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
Dear God, we live in a sinful, fallen world
and bad things happen here all the time.
The people you created are in rebellion.
As a result, tragedy and disaster visit us often.
Lord we know this is not your desire for us.
You never make bad things happen.
But you allow us to make choices,
and you allow consequences, even bad ones, to result.
If it wasn’t for the cross and the empty tomb
we wouldn’t have a chance.
On Good Friday you took on our suffering, our sin.
On Easter morning, you rolled the stone away
from every disaster and agony in our lives.
When Jesus returns, he will banish
hurting, tears, and sorrow.
Until that day arrives, Lord keep us safe!
Protect us from wickedness and harm.
Fit your spiritual armor on us, and make us
effective Christian disciples.
Don't let anything take our joy away!
Make us strong in the face of disappointment,
compassionate in the presence of sorrow.
Let your love in us conquer suffering and wrong.
In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior,
we pray. Amen.

Boy Scout Sunday
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
Dear God we pray for young people who are involved and discover new
opportunities every day. They are into Scouting, or sports, or after school
clubs. They go to church where they are cherished, and nurtured. We praise you
for their loving hearts and bright futures. We also pray for young people who
are bitter, forgotten, and alone. They are into drugs, shoplifting, and
promiscuity. They don't know what a Bible or a communion rail is. They carry
deep wounds and find it difficult to trust anyone. Oh God, thank you for calling
us to love and serve all your people. Amen.
Done and Undone
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
Thank you Lord Jesus for what you have done,
and what you have left undone.
You completely paid for all of our sins.
We cannot possibly add to, or improve,
what you did on the cross. That is finished!
We feel secure, rested, at peace,
because of your resurrection victory.
But what a wonder, what a privilege,
for us to be your hands and feet in this suffering world!
Show us by the guidance of your Holy Spirit,
how to reflect your faith, hope, and love.
Thank you Lord for the work you have left for us! Amen.

Everything Good
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
James 1:17
Dear Lord, your Word tells us that
“every perfect gift is from above”.
So now we know who to thank.
Oh Lord, you have been good to us!
You have given us every sweet
and beautiful blessing in our lives.
All the kisses and hugs, all the compliments,
all the feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction,
and every smile that has warmed our souls
has come from you. You make love and joy possible.
Thank you!
Thank you for all your gifts,
and especially for our forgiveness and cleansing
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Far More
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
Ephesians 3:20-21
Thank you, dear Lord,
for your plan, that is always better than our plan,
for your agenda, which never fails to amaze and delight us,
for your provision, that abundantly meets all of our needs,
for your forgiveness, that completely covers all our sin,
for your Spirit, that empowers us to succeed,
for your generosity, that cannot be stopped,
for your friendship, that heals our hearts,
for your glory, which is revealed in humble, unexpected places.
All praise belongs to you, Lord Jesus Christ,
because you accomplish far more
than we can ask or imagine! Amen.

For Church Leaders
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
(hold bulletin in one hand, and place your other hand on someone near you)
Dear Father in heaven,
pour out your Spirit on this leader in the church.
You know every sin, weakness, and stumbling block in his/her life.
By the authority of Jesus Christ,
we ask that you convict, forgive, cleanse, and empower this Christian.
Help him/her to discover, cultivate, and employ your Spiritual Gifts.
Make him/her effective in ministry to build up the body of Christ.
Lord we believe you have called us to a great work.
Surprise this community with your love and power!
In the name of Jesus Christ, by grace through faith,
we thank you in advance for answering our prayer! Amen.

For the
Church
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
Thank you, dear Jesus, for the Church. We are a living miracle,
and a testimony to your grace. Like a father, who loans his car keys to his
teen-age daughter, you have trusted us. We are inexperienced, short-sighted, and
sometimes clueless. But you love us, and have designed us to grow. You put the
keys of your kingdom in our hands!
You gave us the Great Commission. We don’t deserve your kindness or trust. All
praise to you! All praise, glory, and honor to you, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Prayer of an EMT
(Emergency Medical Technician)
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
July 22, 2003
Dear God, please help me to give
the best emergency care.
Show me how to protect and serve.
Answer this heart-felt prayer.
Guide my hands, my thoughts, my skill
and teach me what to say.
Help every person entrusted to me
to live for another day.
Guard my family, protect my friends
and the team that works with me.
Make me effective, useful, and kind.
Lord, help this EMT.

Rewards
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
Dear Lord Jesus, you have been good to me.
You always reward my obedience.
You always encourage me to be faithful.
I can't even count all the blessings you have given.
Lord, your gifts are awesome,
but what I really want, is you.
I want our relationship to be strong.
I want to grow, and become more like you, every day.
Let your assurance go deep in my heart,
and let me learn to celebrate you
as my greatest treasure. Amen.

Sunday School
Leader Dedication
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
Thank you, dear God,
for all the gifted women and men
in our Sunday School.
They share what they have:
wisdom, caring, faith, knowledge,
exhortation, encouragement, and hospitality.
You multiply their gifts, and by your Holy Spirit,
lives are made new.
We don't know how far their influence goes.
Like a seed, hidden in the earth,
the Gospel goes deep into the lives
of men & women, girls & boys.
Lord, let every Sunday School volunteer understand
the significance of their work.
Show them how you multiply faithfulness.
Surprise them with the power of your grace!
In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Weaknesses
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
Thank you, Lord, for our weaknesses.
Thank you for the problems and struggles that give us a hard time.
If we were able to solve all of our own problems,
we would probably wander away from your love.
You keep us humble and teachable.
You show us how to walk by faith.
Lord, protect us from tragedy, disaster, and evil.
Guide us. Direct us. Help us grow.
In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Who Do You Say That We
Are?
by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jameson
Mark 8:29
Dear Lord Jesus, in Mark 8:29 you asked the disciples a question.
That moment became a turning point in their ministry.
Today, as a church, we want to ask the same question of you.
Who do you say that we are?
It does not matter what other people think.
It does not matter what we have done in the past.
We want to know what you say, because you created us,
you called us, and you have given us unique gifts for ministry.
By faith, we thank you for opening our ears to hear.
By faith, we thank you for the courage to accept,
and the grace to apply your answer. Amen.
