Typed copy of handwritten 1859 deed
for the Mt. Olivet Methodist Protestant Church parsonage
in Warwick, Maryland
This Deed made this Twenty Ninth day of June in the Year
of Our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and fifty Nine, by Samuel
Gillespie and Ellen Gillespie his wife of Cecil county in the State of
Maryland, Witnesseth, that in Consideration of the sum of One
dollar and for divers other good and sufficient causes and Con -
siderations, them thereunto moving, the said Samuel Gillespie and
Ellen Gillespie his wife do grant unto “Mount Olivet Methodist
Protestant Church” of Warwick in said County and state, in
fee simple, all that lot or parcel of land situate lying and be -
ing in the said village of Warwick, which is contained within the
_____ and distances following that is to say, Beginning at a
stone on the North side of the road on Main Street of said village
a corner of a lot of land now occupied by Henry Peacock, and
running thense with the said lot North forty degrees and five
minutes West one hundred and seventy feet to a stone, thence par -
allel with the said North side of said Road or Main street South
fifty one and three fourths degrees West, thirty four feet to a stone
thence South forty degrees and five minutes East, one hundred
and seventy feet to a stone on the said North side of said road Main
Street and thence by and with said North side of said road or Main
Street to the place of Beginning - provided that if the Methodist
Protestant Church should cease to have an Ecclesiastical organi -
zation at Warwick and the dwelling House erected or about to be
erected on the said lot or parcel of land hereby conveyed should
cease to be occupied by a clergyman of said church or to be used
for the benefit of said Church for a period of five consecutive years
of any one time, there and in that case the said lot or parcel of
land and premises shall revert to and become again the property
of the said Samuel Gillespie his heirs and assignees but not otherwise.

hundred and fifty nine, before the _____ _____ a Justice of the Peace
of the State of Maryland in and for Cecil County, personally ap -
peared Samuel Gillespie and Ellen Gillespie his wife of said
County and did each acknowledge the aforegoing Deed to be their
respective act.
