What is Alpha ?
The Alpha Course is an eleven week program which gives a practical introduction to the Christian faith. It
offers the opportunity to explore the meaning of life. It includes an
opportunity to enjoy a fellowship meal at every class, excellent instruction,
small group discussion, and an opportunity to enjoy a week-end retreat.
Every class begins with dinner
starting at 6:00 pm at either the Village
Bakery & Café in Galena OR the Granary Restaurant in Georgetown. The cost for the meal is $11.00
per person, paid that night, and includes beverages & tips.
We send a clipboard around at each class to get a firm attendance number for the
following week so the Café staff will know how to prepare.
At 7:00 pm the program begins with with songs, then a video lesson.
This is followed by discussion in groups. We all go home by 8:30 pm.
Every participant receives an Alpha Course Manual for free. Other materials are
available on a donation basis.
Newcomers who want to join the class, even after several sessions,
are welcome.
Here is a typical Alpha class schedule:

What do people say about Alpha ?
For as long as I remember, through my childhood, teens, and adult years, I have asked questions. One question I constantly asked myself was "Do I believe in God?" I had no answer and it bothered me... By the end of the third Alpha evening I had come to a few realizations that were truly stunning for me... I knew that Jesus died for me and that I could never ‘sit the fence’ again. — Jill
I have learned more in the space of a few weeks than I ever had in years of attending church. — David
Everything Alpha gave me was so positive; it gave me the beginnings of understanding what being a Christian means; it gave me warm friendship and a sense of belonging... it gave me patient and thoughtful answers to all my questions. — Sarah
Alpha is wonderful - life changing! Alpha answered and clarified all the basics for me and put me on firm ground to travel forward on my journey with God. — Mary
From the very first meeting we felt this is what had been missing from our lives. It felt like coming home.
— Margaret and Keith
