2008 Mission Trip to Louisiana |
Home in 9th Ward |
Gene, Donna & Pat worked on a house in the 9th ward.
The Washington Family is a family with 13 children, many of whom are grown
and have their own families. But as we worked at their home site, several
of the sons and daughters came to the site daily and worked along side the
volunteers.
The family had waited since Katrina for help and they were so grateful to
see us appear on that Monday morning in November as they struggled alone.
With us came hope for the Washington Family and we were so blessed to be able
to bring that to them. |

Home in East Orleans |
|
Keith, Laura, Alan, Wendy, and Dawn worked on a home in East
Orleans. The East Orleans property is owned by Janet who lives
with her little girl and her elderly mother. This house got about 4 feet
of water and everything was ruined. They left when Katrina hit and were
not allowed back into their home until 4 months later. When they returned
there was nothing salvageable. The house had to be gutted and rebuilt
from the walls out. We put in insulation, sheet rock, and the first coat
of tape throughout the house. We met Janet one afternoon and she stayed
and talked with us for over an hour. She was overwhelmed with the work
we had accomplished and was very very anxious to get back into her home.
What a great day that was!!!

Women's Group
This group is open to all women and friends of the First United Methodist Church. Our purpose is to be
disciples of Jesus by developing a creative, supportive fellowship as we address spiritual and social issues through our service
to God. We support and maintain various mission projects with a special focus on children and family ministries.
Some of our many
projects include adopting families at Christmas, supporting youth
and children through DCF funding, sponsoring children's activities
such as the Easter Egg Hunt and camp scholarships, providing "container showers" for
those giving birth or getting married, providing cards, gifts, and
prayers in time of need, sponsoring the Men's Ecumenical Communion Breakfast
and the church picnic, hosting our annual Church Mouse Market in November,
and responding to various needs of our church and community as they arise.
Our women's group is very active by sharing our service, gifts & talents,
financial resources, and our love of Jesus.
Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings which are generally held on the
second Saturday of each month. They are held in Fellowship Hall and begin
at 9:15 am.

Mom to Mom |
Our Mission |
Our mission is to educate, encourage, and equip women for the most important, yet
toughest job in the world — parenting. Through practical, biblically based teaching on parenting and through supportive
interaction in small groups led by experienced mothers, we wish to foster growth, not only in our parenting skills, but in our wholeness
as women. |
Who We Are |
We are women from different backgrounds
seeking a Christian response by which we can guide our children in
today's world. Though at various stages of parenting, we share a common
desire to grow as women and mothers.
