History

In 1958, the commission on education of the First United Methodist Church of Crossett, under the pastorate of Clint Atchly, was authorized to start a kindergarten. Robert Nason, general manager of the Crossett Lumber Company, and M.H. Russell were asked to seek permission from the administrative board of the church to have Mrs. N.J. Garrett be the director/teacher of the kindergarten. The kindergarten began with 15 children enrolled in that first year.

In 1966, kindergarten became available through the public school system. Mrs. Garrett attended Scarritt College, a Methodist college, in Nashville, TN, during the summer of 1966 during which she took a course study in Child Development. That same year, Mrs. Garrett began a day school. The school's enrollment was then 150 children with 10 teachers.

In 1983, Annie Ruth Pitzer, (formerly Annie Ruth Blankenship) was named director of the day school following the retirement of Mrs. N. J. Garrett.
