SERVING THOSE AFFECTED BY HURRICANE KATRINA
Relief supplies.
Thank for very much to all who contributed and participated in our collection
of supplies to aid in the care of displaced persons, and in trips to the Gulf
coast.
A team of volunteers has trucked them to the UMCOR distribution center
in Baldwin, Louisiana, leaving after worship on Sept. 18, 2005.
In a follow-up trip in March 2006, several volunteers spent a week helping in
the construction of homes.
Other relief efforts are continuing:
-
Cash donation
. Probably the most
effective way to help those displaced by Hurricane Katrina is to send a
cash donation for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), designated
Advance #982523-Katrina, to your local church or to the
California-Nevada Conference Center, P.O. Box 980250 West Sacramento, CA
95798. Direct donations can be made, and more information acquired, by
going to UMCOR’s web site: www.umcor.org.,
or the conference web site: www.cnumc.org.
-
Personal assistance
. Our conference Volunteers
in Mission office is organizing Early Response Teams. Contact them at UMVIM, P.O. Box 980250 West Sacramento,
CA 95798, 916-374-1582, umvim@calnevumc.org. Also, the
American Red Cross is conducting a 9 hour training each day in Sacramento,
and has need for trained aides to go immediately to their shelters
throughout the southeast. Contact them at 916-368-3131, www.sacramento-redcross.org.
-
Sponsor a family.
Many families
need places to live and jobs to work as their neighborhoods are reclaimed
and houses rebuilt. This church is considering sponsoring a family or two
for several months. To assist in this effort please contact coordinator
Emily Harris, 916-941-0481, harrisnet@sbcglobal.net.

Pray
for those so adversely
affected by the hurricane, for all those rallying to provide help, and for
their daily experience of God’s unfailing love.
Thank you very much for your generous outreach,
Pastor Dave Bunje,
