Three Simple Rules for Christian Living
What are the three simple rules for Christian living?  Where do they come from?  Why are they so important for Christians?  How can I practice them? Three Simple Rules for Christian Living offers opportunities to explore these questions and others by reflecting on the three simple rules as presented in the book Three Simple Rules: A Wesleyan Way of Living by Rueben Job. 1. Do No Harm  2. Do Good  3. Stay in Love with God.  You will learn what these rules mean and how you can practice them in your daily life.  This class will be led by Pastor Marty and will run through Nov. 10.

Living the Questions 2.0
An introduction to progressive Christianity featuring 30 of today’s leading religious voices including: Nancy Ammerman, John Bell, Marcus Borg, John Cobb, Yvette Flunder, Tex Sample, and John Shelby Spong.  The nature of the material covered is non-linear.  If you are expecting to leave each session with clear and concise answers you will be disappointed as the purpose of this time together will be to raise questions and “stir the pot,” not provide answers.  This is Part 2 of Living the Questions 2.0.  Part 1 was offered in the spring of 2008.  Part 2 stands on its own so if you did not take Part 1 it’s not a problem.  Part 1 will be repeated at another time.  JoAnn Montgomery and Tara Macy will be facilitating this class and it will run through Nov. 17 (7 weeks).

Financial Workshop for Individual Investors
Here’s an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of investing and estate planning.  The FUMC Endowment Board is sponsoring a 5 class (2 hours each) workshop.  We are fortunate to have two very knowledgeable speakers highly recommended by the Endowment Board. Archie D. Rider, Investment Representative for Edward Jones will be speaking about the investment aspects of the course.  DeAnne E. Parker, Attorney at Law, will be speaking about the estate planning aspects. Call Duane Lyon (223-4083) or Charley Fitch (241-2233) if you have any questions.  Class size is limited so you are encouraged to register ASAP – it’s first come first served.  Call Sue at 226-8024 ASAP so class materials can be ordered.  Be sure to tell Sue you are a member of First United Methodist Church as the cost is waived for FUMC members.  This class is meeting slightly different from the other two classes by meeting at 6:00 p.m. instead of 6:30.  If you want to sign up for dinner just know you will have only 15 minutes to eat.  This Class begins Oct. 13 and runs each Tuesday through Nov. 10. Please see attached flyer for more information.
