Hospitality of God's Grace

First United Methodist Church of Pittsburgh affirms that God’s grace is available to all. We prayerfully seek to openly welcome all of God’s children regardless of Christian perspective, education, economic condition, race, gender, national origin, physical and mental abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or marital status. We commit ourselves to be in ministry for and with all persons, independent of society’s regard. God blesses us all so that together we can be God’s instruments of blessing to the world.

THE COSMIC CHRIST AND THE HISTORICAL JESUS

The Cosmic Christ and the Historical Jesus" June 28-30
Dr. Matthew Fox and Dr. Andrew Harvey bring the second ChristPath Seminar to Pittsburgh, June 28-30, at First United Methodist Church of Pittsburgh. Rev. Dr. Matthew Fox, theologian/author/activist and Dr. Andrew Harvey, author/mystic will be offering the second of their twelve ChristPath Seminars, at First United Methodist Church of Pittsburgh in Shadyside www.FirstUMCPittsburgh.org, on June 28-30, 2013. Drs. Harvey and Fox have authored over 60 books on spirituality, Christianity, and culture and will be integrating their combined wisdom on the “The Cosmic Christ and the Historical Jesus” this June in Pittsburgh. Through their unique process of inspirational discourse, creative dialogue, and integrative mysticism, these 21st century visionaries will clarify and strengthen our core Christianity so that we can more effectively embody Jesus’s justice in today’s world. Dr. Bruce Chilton, early Christianity scholar, and author of Rabbi Jesus: An Intimate Biography will be their special guest on Saturday evening. All three will participate in worship at First United Methodist Church on Sunday morning at 10am. The seminar runs from 7pm on June 28 to 1pm on June 30 and is available for onsite participation or live streaming. Registration: $50 at www.ChristPathSeminar.org. The remainder of the cost of the seminar, worth $400, is being offered in the spirit of the emerging Gift Economy. See the ChristPath website for details.

Comments from a happy visitor: "I can't say, because no one really knows what the church to come will be, but I so fervently want to believe that the Christian communities that survive will look and act like this amazing congregation." Follow the link for complete comments by Jim Norton.
