It was a dark night and very quiet as well. Stars were cold and bright, and the world was at peace with itself.
The man (called, “Everyman”) sat comfortably on a ledge and his thoughts soared. They turned for the moment to God. Yes, we all have our quiet moments now and then!
Our friend was experiencing a rather rare moment of peace and looking up, he spoke half to himself and half to his God:
“When I look at the heavens, the work of Your hands, the moon and the stars which you have established.
What is man that You are even mindful of him, and who am I that you care even for me?
Yet, Lord, You have made these earthly children of yours only a little less than angels. And You have crowned them with glory and honor.
Indeed, You have given them dominion over the works of Your hands. You have put all things under their feet.
Oh, Lord, Our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the Earth, Oh, Lord, Our Lord, make us worthy to be called Your Children!”
Then, while it was still night, the man arose, and began his walk through the centuries, and is among us, and with us even to this day.
Friends, perhaps this very evening, you may walk under those same stars. Perhaps you may find your own ledge on which to sit. And who knows, you may find your God once again in the still of the night - in that still, still of the night…
